I have created a step by step resolution to your problem:

    1. Open passenger side door.
    2. Drive at a high rate of speed around left hand corner.
    3. Raise right hand.
    4. Assist wife out of door by extending right hand.
    5. Continue down the road in silence.

sorry if this was posted but didnt read this whole thread just the question....

check your wheel base on the right wheel. theres plastic flaps that clip to the frame, sometimes these clips come loose and that flap will rub on the tire sometimes. check it out!! this happen to me and the sound was horrible and it was such an easy fix. just clip back in

For the people taking their trucks to the dealership, could you please let us all know the outcome?

It seems to me like this is a bigger issue than I thought it orginally was. I hate to say this, but at least I'm not the only one...

Hey Edy, I was just told by the service advisor (I'm at the dealer right now) that the passenger side speaker has a short in it. Not the tweeter nearest the window but the speaker near the floor. I told him to disconnect the speaker and drive it around and see if the buzz is gone. He has to order a speaker and it will take a few days.

    Hello all,

Just thought I'd chime in. I've owned so many new vehicles of all makes now that I've come to expect them all to have a rattle or two. Yes, some of them are really annoying, but it just seems to be a fact of life. One thing that helps is to not read the posts that have the words "squeak or rattle".

Sometimes I wonder if you take all of your crap back out of the vehicle - would you still get the rattles ? Many times I track these things down to things like sunglasses, CD's, etc. that I have stored in the vehicle.

Anyway, my 2009 taco only has a couple hundred miles on it so far, but I'm sure a rattle will eventually surface. If not, I'm be sure to read this forum more so I can find one. :D

This is almost exactly where the sound is coming from too!!! I'm kinda curious if there was a bad batch of speakers from the factory. Please let me know the outcome before I start tearing the door apart. Cause I will... :D

I'll let you know as soon as I get the truck back. I'm having an alignment done as well and I told them to leave the speaker disconnected so I can prove to myself that that was the problem.

I'll let you know what happens.

I'll probably just pull the fuse on the way home to see if it still buzzes. Will this help to troubleshoot if there is indeed a short in the speaker?

You could try it. I don't know for sure if that'll get rid of it since it's most likely a short to ground through that speaker that somehow doesn't depend on the radio being on or off and is tied to the accelerator in my case. It's an easy thing to try though.

Well, I'm leaving the dealership and they said that they unplugged the speaker and the sound is gone. I'll be checking the whole way home and log back in to let you know. I guess this problem won't be solved IMO until I get the new speaker and the buzz is gone completely.

If you can, ask the tech there if pulling the fuse would work for troubleshooting. Could you also ask if they know if this is a common problem. Thanks again.

Sorry, I didn't catch your reply until I had left the dealership for good. It turns out, after I left (the first time) and the speaker was unplugged, the buzz reared it's ugly head again so I turned around and went back. They took it into the back and pulled the sill plate cover and kick panel off and disconnected the entire door (electrically). Then, I took their best tech for a ride. I could not F'in reproduce the problem with him in the truck. We even pulled over and reconnect the door connectors and continued the test drive. Once again I could not reproduce the buzz. So, I dropped him off and told him to leave the plastic panels off and I will see if in fact it cured the problem. I was suspicious since he was sitting in the passenger side front and now I started to wonder if it was under the seat or something. So, off I went to head home and once again, the f'ing buzzing was back. Now I'm F'ing pissed! Not at Toyota, just this god damn buzz. I decided to go back and I figured they were going to be sick of me by now. I asked for the same tech again but this time I had him sit in the back. Presto! Buzz was produced and he heard it. Not that someone sitting in the passenger side will fix it, I just think that I didn't hear it since he was in front of the speaker of something like that.

So now, I'm taking the truck back on tuesday (10/28) to leave it with them so he can work on it. I think after todays events, I'm convinced that it is NOT an electrical problem but rather something rattling that's producing the buzz because over some bumps, I could get a quick buzz. I finally went home and pulled out all of the rubber, foam, tape and zip ties I had as I was going to do all I could to insulate/restrain the clips, wires and brackets that pass behind/under the kick panel and sill plate. I haven't driven it since. I must say that they were VERY accommodating to me after I came back 3 times and the tech guaranteed me that he would find it.

I believe that the buzz is coming from something rubbing or rattling when the truck vibrates at some frequency. For my truck, that frequency happens to be when the trans is in high gear, the rpm is 1000-1500, the accelerator is pressed lightly, and I'm doing between 25 to 45 mph. This just happens to be my entire ride to/from work and that's what's making this an annoyance for me.

gtz, I'm not sure if you were asking me but the dealership did not charge me anything since my truck is still under warranty.

Sorry for the blog but I hope this helps someone. I will keep you in the loop after Tuesday.

Well, I picked up my truck yesterday and they padded the entire door skin and changed the speaker anyway (on the passenger side) and the buzz is still there. The dealer said they never really heard any "buzz" and I assume that's because they didn't drive it long enough. It seems to happen after 15-20 minutes of driving and then you can't miss the noise. I guess I'm on my own to fix this. I'm tired of the wasted time at the dealer and funny looks like, "We didn't hear anything." I'm going to start by taking the entire door skin off and speaker out and see if it goes away. Sorry I don't have any solution yet but I'm still working on it.

Thanks for all the help. From what you write about the description of the noise, it's exactly the same problem that I have. I'm suprised that more Tacoma owners don't experience this problem.

I have the same Exact Problem. My dash rattles on the passenger side where the airbag is. when you put ur hand on it. the noise goies away.

i've taken it once already and it only happens in the cold. since its cold pretty much all day now, i hear it more often.

the first time i took it they replaced the the silver dash panel around the radio.

since it didn't solve the problem.....they are gonna check it out again. the nice thing i like about this dealer is they are very personal. they remembered my name when i walked in the door. they gave me the same driver who went on the test drive with me the first time and he remembered what he fixed and and what he's gonna look for this time.

I hope it finally gets fixed cuz even with radio....you still hear it. when i know what they fix i will let you know.

any updates? Mine has been doing this for the last couple weeks now. Driving me nuts. 1500 rpms, slow acceleration and the freakin buzz is there. I am going to try putt some weighted stuff on the seat to see if that helps since I Dont notice it when people are in the car (which isnt that often anyways)

Well, a few weeks have gone by and I've NOT heard the buzz in my truck since my last round of cable tying/foaming. I waited so long to respond because I wanted to convice myself that it was gone and I didn't want to jinx myself by responding too quickly only to have the buzz come back. I'm hoping it's not because the colder weather (snow where I live) is here. It's hard to say with exact certainty what was causing the buzz in my truck because I spent considerable time putting soft foam everywhere and cable tying every F'ing wire behind the kick panel, glove box, and door sill. I can say that the buzz is NOT coming from the door (or behind the skin). Even though it sounds like it's coming from the bottom speaker on the passenger side. I believe the sound is coming from two "things" vibrating against each other due to a certain harmonic from the truck. I don't know if these "things" are wires sparking in a connector, corregated black wire comb rubbing at the seam, plastic panels against each other or the truck itself, or something else. My harmonic seemed to be at about 1200 rpm, 35-45 mph, on a smooth road. This happens to be my entire ride to work, all 30 minutes of it.

I'm sorry I can't say the solution is "take this wire and cable tie it to this." I don't know what combination of things I did will solve your buzzing but I will tell you everything I did.

This is going to be a long post but if you read it, I hope it will help you with the buzz in your truck.

Here's the list of things that I tried and didn't work in case you want to know. They're things I tried but still heard the buzz afterwards so I left them in place. At the start of this, I had the passenger side door skin off, speakers out, sill panel off, kick panel off, glove box off, everything that wasn't bolted down out of the truck and not just on the passenger side.

    1. Insulate the speaker mounts from vibration
    2. Insulate the door skin from vibration
    3. Insulate between the door speakers and the door skin
    4. Insulate between the floor mat hooks and the floor pan
    5. Tape and insulate the corregated cable wrap that runs underneath the door sill
    6. Buckle the passenger side seat belt
    7. Move/tilt the passenger side seat to all positions
    8. Insulate the white plastic clips/retainers beneath the passenger side sill plate.
Here's what MAY have solved the buzzing in my truck and hopefully yours.
    1. First I cable tied every wire and bundle of wires to something so that nothing could move. I did this behind the kick panel, sill plate, and behind the glove box. I would wiggle EVERYTHING to see if it would make a sound that could even remotely create the problem.
    2. I wiggled the wires that went into each plug because they seemed to create a sound that could have been the problem and I cable tied a few of those.
    3. I placed "spongy" foam between the kick panel and the electrical plugs as well as everywhere that this panel came in contact with the truck (up towards the firewall, between the floor and this panel, and between the sill plate and this panel.
    4. I wrapped the black corregated wire comb everywhere that it seemed loose and especially where there was the loose label wrapped around it.
Sorry so long but I wanted you to know everything I did since I can't pinpoint any one single thing you can do to make it go away. This problem became "personal" for me because it annoyed the hell out of me and I decided I wasn't going to live with it. Since I'm in engineering, finding solutions to everything is just second nature to me.

I still listen for it everytime I drive and I won't consider it 100% gone until we have some warmer weather and some more time goes by.

    Hope this helps you guys.
