    Hey all,

So today I was working on installing my new BAMF rock sliders when we had a little bit of a mishap. I sheered off the head on the 14mm bolt, located on my lower frame between the carrier bearing crossmemember. Is it safe to drive back to Nevada leaving it like this?

It’s hard to tell exactly what pieces are being held together by that bolt, but could you get a nut and bolt and run it through that other hole right next to the sheered bolt?

    I just replaced that part.

there is four rivets holding the cross member in on each side. IMHO I would do it, if I couldn’t take care of it where I was.

it wasn’t fun getting this SOB in.

    Edit:
You can always add a bolt in that extra hole if it makes you feel better.

Started by hitting it with PB Blaster penetrating oil top and bottom. Then used an open ended 14mm wrench, with no luck. Moved up to 14mm socket with 3/8" drive...nothing. Next was an 18" breaker bar with 1/2" drive...still nothing. More penetrating oil followed by sliding the handle of my Dad's floor jack over the breaker bar for more leverage....nice small and easy pushes to see if it would move. Got a little motion, so grabbed an air impact wrench...set to reverse...couple easy taps and then gave it a good try. SNAP!

So, I guess just bad luck combined with my truck living in "snow country" (road salt).

Drill it out. Is that a smiley face I am seeing on that bolt?

    Good eye.
I would try drilling it out too. Is there enough sticking out the back for a vise grip?

Looking at buying a drill with an extractor set rn. There might be enough sticking out the back however, pretty sure I won't have a lot of range of motion for a vise grip.

Small needle nose vise grips can get a pretty good bite on there. You might even get lucky when drilling on it, could go on through.

Next time you need to go to heat, torch, sooner than the handle extension on the breaker bar.
Living in snow country where road salt is used, you should be well versed in a torch.
