TSB's for 2011 Tacomas?

I am a new owner of a 2011 Tacoma that I really love. I have seen, in numerous post, references to TSB's. I was able to find a list of TSB's on here, but the ones I found were for 2005-2009 Tacomas. Is there a place to find a current list for the 2011 models? Also is there a way to find out if these have been done to my truck or not (for example, were these problems fixed at the factory)? These may sound like some simple questions, but this is my first Tacoma. Thanks for any help with this.

I too have had a 2011 for a few months now. Its my first truck/tacoma too.

All I have seen in TSBs for the 2011 for sure is the Harsh Ride/Rear 4-leaf TSB. I've attatched it for ya

Now the problem is that I have noticed that issues that have been in TSBs for previous years STILL CONTINUE TO BE AN ISSUE!

1) Rear Spring Harsh Ride
(TSB includes 2011, I have yet to decide to do so yet, just saw one negative post for once about it being more harsh....this is my first truck, so it "riding like a truck" after is not a good enough description for me...it does ride smooth now....haha)

2) Blower Motor Squeal Noise at Low Ambient Teperatures (A/C)
(TSB is Up to 2010 only, though my VIN number is in list-3TM.... I already have it making noise every once and a while!...its annoying but I've only heard it twice so far and thats with having A/C on low all the time really...)

3) Steering Intermediate Shaft Rattle Noise
(I noticed something in my steering felt loose when riding on dirt roads/off roading, again TSB does not apply to 2010 from what I've seen, though VIN number is in list-3TM....)

I would like to get all three done eventually, but the rear leaf seems to be the only one showing 2011 on the list. Also I find it hard to go to my service dept with three fixes, probably got to span it out....

 

If you think the ride is harsh now just wait till you do the rear leaf TSB! Unless you plan on hauling 1,400 lbs of gravel once a week keep the spring you have and enjoy a much better ride. Too many people on this board are getting them changed just because its free. Don't believe all the BS about the truck hitting the bump stops with a light load. I've hauled 600-700 lbs with no issues at all.

 

Yeah everyone on here just made that up . Mine used to ride on the bump stops with any load over 500 pounds. Pretty pathetic for a truck with a payload capacity of over double that.


You are right that some people on here get the tsb just for a free lift though, which is also

 

Your truck, like all the U.S. models, should have a 3-leaf pack on each side. So if you look at your rear suspension and you only have 3 leafs, then your truck qualifies. Also heed what other people have said about the "stiffer ride". I just got mine done and I absolutely love the way it handles and rides now, even without weight in the back. More like a truck should be. But some people are unhappy with the stiffer ride and the dealer will caution you on this before performing it.

As far as the rear spring harsh ride TSB goes, I am definately thinking about trying to get this one done. I have a trailer that I tow on a regular basis that I think this would help with. Making the truck have a stiffer ride wouldn't matter at all. I traded in a Chevy 2500HD Silverado to get this Tacoma and the 2500 had a really stiff ride.

@ Relic, you said that you feel something loose when on rough roads. I have the exact same issue. I am definately going to look into that some as well. I am more concerned about this issue than the rear end right now.

got steering & rear fixed today and it now is perfect no more rattle and no more sag. most tsb's are not listed to include 2011 yet so give them time to figure it out. they should work with you.

 

I had my truck at the dealership today and they approved the rear leaf TSB for my truck. I showed them where the bump stops had rubbed a few times. The shop forman had to tell me about the "rougher ride", but other than that, it wasn't a problem to get the TSB set up. I'm taking the truck in to the everything installed as soon as the parts come in.

As far as the Steering Shaft TSB goes, I didn't have any luck with it at all. The TSB doesn't cover the 2011 models yet. The service guys drove it and said they didn't feel anything, of course they were driving on a small road. I guess I will just keep an eye out to see if this TSB gets updated for the 2011 models.

Well I left my truck at the dealership overnight to the get leaf spring TSB done. I know about the harsh ride issue, but I had a Chevy Silverado 2500HD for 4 years before I traded it for my Tacoma. So a little bit of a rough ride won't be a big deal. I do have a trailer and 2 quads that I tow at least once a month. I did look under the bed of the truck and I could see where the bump stops had been rubbing alot already, and I've only had the truck since August. I will update with my thoughts on the ride after I pick up my truck tomorrow.

went to the dealer w/ mine to ask them about doing the tsb and they pretty much tried to shut me down.

told me that not everyone needs it and that i will need to prove that i've been having issues.

i told them ill just call customer care and handle it thru them.

also while i was there, i was told the annoying as hell exhaust noise i'm hearing is "normal" and that it will go away once the truck has a few thousand miles on it.

is that bullshit or what

 

They are correct that not everyone needs it.

If you actually need it, it should be pretty easy to prove that. Your frame would show marks from your bump stops.

 

That's what I kind of thought. I was all pumped up to get the leaf TSB and even contacted Toyota and got a case number and go ahead. But I LIKE the ride and I don't two anything but a fiberglass boat once or twice a year a few miles. After reading a lot I find many are getting it becasue its a TSB and not because it is needed.

Toyota obviously (and thankfully) decided a soft ride was their first sell point and the leaf could be added if complained about. There is no evidence the previous owner of my truck did any towing or carry anything at all in the bed. The truck is slightly raised in back with stock springs. If I need it I will buy the Firestone Airbag system. A much better less permanent adjustable solution.

If I decide to put on a fiberglass cap, I will know for sure if I need help down there.

 

Well I now have this TSB done to my truck and to be honest, I can't tell much of a difference in the ride. Maybe it's cause I've always driven trucks for the last 20 years, but either way, I like the ride.

 

Not for anything but have you lost your mind. Three leafs suck and 600-700lbs is nothing. Have your truck bed filled with snow after a storm and you are already stressing the 3 leaf pack. Everyone should get them changed because it is the right thing to do and toyota should have done it from the get go.

 

i believe a lot of the excessive ride harshness people are complaining about is experienced when switching from a base or sr5 package truck to the tsb.

those of us that have the offroad or sport packages already have bilsteins installed, so one extra leaf in the back will not make a very noticeable difference.

i drove an sr5 before i bought my sport and that difference is quite obvious

 

btw redneck, does yours do the annoying pst pst pst pst sound under medium to heavy throttle? sounds like a faulty exhaust many

 

Tacoma's sold in Canada all have the 4 leafs and bilsteins shocks, SR5 and TRD. At least 2009 and newer. Not sure if anyone in Canada pre 09 has the three leafs and has had success getting the TSB for it completed? I have a USA TRD with 3 leafs and Im going to try to see if my Canadian dealer will do the TSB

 

Septimius.....I haven't noticed any noise like that yet.
