Based off what I’ve seen lately, that’s a lowball offer.

Sure. Since your so fucking smart and apparently know everything. In a few years, yes that’s how it works. If you knew anything in this world you would know. Do your research. It’s called in investigation just like all the others on their website. They don’t shoot from the hip and ramble off bullshit, if they wanted that they would ask you to be their spokesman.

You can subscribe and read but I’m tired of your no nonsense bullshit thinking you fucking know everything.

With respect, I think you're confused here. I worked at the FTC in consumer protection for many years. The things auto dealers get sued for by the agency are deceptive advertising and discriminatory financing practices. If a dealer were to lure in customers with a lower price and then sneak in a market adjustment after a deal had been agreed, that type of practice might get their attention. Simply charging more than MSRP (and clearly advertising that higher price) is neither deceptive nor illegal.

I simply asked you to show me a federal price gouging statute, because you’ve claimed the FTC is investigating dealers for price gouging. I don’t know why that’s so upsetting. Federal agencies don’t conduct investigations when there is no underlying federal law to enforce.

The closest you’ll come to federal price gouging laws is the Defense Production Act, but it has no applicability to the auto industry.

What you’ve posted above is mostly deceptive business practices, which is right in the FTC breadbasket. There are lots of federal statutes for that area, which is essentially various flavors of fraud.

There’s not a single example, in what you posted, regarding price gouging. It’s a very specific term, with a very specific meaning. Dealer markups in the form of market adjustments are certainly not fraudulent or deceptive. They’re right there on the sticker or the website. Dealerships certainly run many cons, but pricing gouging isn’t a con. It’s taking advantage of a crisis to profiteer from necessities. Like food, or gas. Again, a new Tacoma isn’t a necessity.

It seems you’re simply conflating the term “price gouging” with “deceptive acts” and fraud. They’re different.

Guys don't know why you are making such a big issue out of this. Stop it and go back on the main topic.

    Ryan said this :
Resale value is purely market driven. As we can see the market is stupid right now. As far as calculations the industry makes I have no idea

Ryan hit it right. That is why the dealers say : MARKET PRICE. Maybe not everywhere.

These assholes we have running the country right now, not only do they want to spy on your bank account, they want to charge us for miles driven. Just think, just like GPS, they will see your odo anytime.
I do not think we have to read all that FTC bullshit. "Let the buyer beware".

That post was mine, where I did turn down an offer of $50,000 for my 2019 TRD Sport. Again, my truck is heavily customized with a completely different interior than what came with the truck. That alone, was over $2000. I have videos out there that show the various things I have done to my truck, and I completely understand your skepticism as hey, I was as shocked as anyone with that offer! But hey, as I said, I have nothing I could buy to replace it with, and my truck is a quicksand color and they don't even offer than anymore, so even if there WERE plenty of new Tacomas out there, for one thing, I don't see a whole lot of difference between the new models and mine. The only time I would possibly consider trading would be when the supposed 4th generation comes out, and of course, that all depends on WHAT that 4th generation entails. If it is something like the Hilux that is currently for sale in other countries, then I would definitely consider trading. The one thing about all of this, is that when I bought my TRD Sport, I paid $38,000 cash out the door, and even though that was a lot to me at the time, I knew I had a decent deal considering sales tax here in CA at the time, was 9.75%, and that alone, added just over $3000 to the price of the truck! Now though, that $38,000, looks like a steal!

You’re not kidding! Even with 50K miles, it would sell for more than I originally paid for it right now, and for the total including my mods like the ARE shell, Prinsu roof rack, sliders and full Mobtown armor!

Sold my 2019 vehicle for $38,000 to Carmax this month that I paid $31,xxx for 2 years and 20,000 later. I was effectively paid $290 a month to drive my last vehicle. Paid invoice for my Taco in cash but had to wait 4 months. The market is whacked but good deals can still be had if you shop. Dealers in California in particular are absolutely gouging people with "market adjustments" absurdity.

There is new car price protection laws in Canada. Dealers can't charge above MSRP for new. Sure some try and add accessories and other things and mark them up, but mostly up here it's easy to buy new vehicles for MSRP. Used prices have no such protection and dealers can charge what ever they like for those.

There's something wrong when a used SR5 from a couple years ago is going for almost as much now as a new 2020 Pro was in my area last year.

Well, not when you find out the salesman is willing to throw in a TRD-PRO grille at no charge with built in raptor lights, then is it really much different? lol
