Great 4runner, I’d throw arb lockers in front and rear and you prob have a better setup than the pro.

The real question is what is crazier, the dealer asking that price or somebody actually paying it. And you know somebody will.

    Oh look, another mod....
I can't really fault these dealerships & sales people for doing what they are doing. I mean, they may be scum sucking bottom feeding salesmen/sales managers, but hey...they gotta' make a living too.

If I had a vehicle that I knew I could raise the price on "just because the market allowed it", I would. In a second. Let's be honest folks. If you had a spare vehicle sitting in your garage and someone said "Hey, I'll give you $1k under what you originally paid for it". Then a second guy comes along and says "Wait, I'll give you $1k OVER what you originally paid." Which would you choose? And don't lie. I know damn well what I'd do.

The dealerships are only asking it, because they know that people are willing to pay the markup. It's a sellers market right now, not a buyers. It's like the housing market. When you have a shortage of houses for sale, but a lot of buyers...you can ask whatever you want for your home AND dictate the terms!

A vehicle is like a house, it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

Very well said. My instinct is to hate it but they're not breaking a law and no one is forced to buy them. And for now at least... they're not ripping people off on basic necessities like food or water. Transportation could be argued is a necessity but not $70,000 transportation. There's other reasonable (affordable) choices. They can charge whatever they want

Inflation, shortages, and similar aside, the fact remains that like housing, this is a seller's market. Got an old vehicle that you don't really need, but selling it wasn't worth the hassle? Might be worth it right now, since you can ask more and have to deal with less haggling.

I bought a graphics card for my PC at a marked up price (through a retailer). However, the same card I bought is currently going for almost twice that price, and I've actually made close to the difference between MSRP and actual purchase price back by mining on the card when I'm not gaming on it.

I also purchased my Tacoma at almost the same time. It wasn't even my choice, but my daily driver died, and fixing it was more expensive than the vehicle was worth, plus, the myriad of other problems I was having with it, made it more worth it to me to spend more than I normally would have on my Tacoma. I think that the Taco was actually the most expensive vehicle I've ever purchased, though my WRX might beat it when inflation is factored in. Despite being expensive, at least I got a really palatable interest rate on it (and it's fixed, too).

    That said, I wouldn't spend $120,000 on a 2022 anything, much less a vehicle I actually wouldn't even want.

Yeah.....but then you'd be forced to wear jhorts, open collared shirts, white socks pulled half way up your calf and gold chains.

    Exactly!!!

It's unfortunate that there is a flock of fairly ignorant people that purchase stuff at ridiculous prices just to "look" the part. A little research on upgrades and install prices, as well as a bit of patience getting a stock rig built up could net them a much better "looking" and functioning ride in the end.

This world of instant gratification paired with the need for social acceptance is really making it hard to not laugh at these folks.

As for the ridiculous mark up on used vehicles right now, I am just biding my time and will add fuel to the fire when I finally decide to list my unmolested, stock, low mileage 1997 F350 PSD CCLB 4x4 for sale at or nearly what it sold for new back in 1997 (~$37K). Almost seems like a steal at that price compared to anything sold new in the past 10 years. I owe nothing on it, and in no hurry.

Let’s see what happens since Toyota announced they’re going back to full production next month. Let’s see if the lots fill back up.

well, i just dont get the people who upgrade cars every 2-3 years. because there is a new color out or a new package.

buy a car and drive it. get to know it. take care of it.

i was thinking of maybe getting a newer truck then my 2015 TRD Off Road but i have so much done to it, and about $4500 invested in mods. i would loose all that and have to start from scratch.

are dealers a-holes? yes. but that is because people are letting them be a-holes.
if nobody was buying the over priced cars, they wouldnt add such a mark up.
