Hey @upTOPoverland you don't happen to have the old design for the cap rack laying around, do you?

If I got a fairing with no light cutout, would I be able to purchase a new fairing with a cutout down the road? Would it be costly to go this route? Kinda feels like it since I likely won't be able to sell the older fairing so no "core" charge/rebate unless Uptop wants it back.

Maybe what I am subconsciously hoping for by asking this question is for someone to say "spend the money on the thing you don't need (yet)!" :anonymous:

I think you can, but IMO just spend the little bit extra and get what you want. No ragrets.

When I was debating between the Alpha and Bravo racks, my wife said just get the one you really want. Such a wise woman.

Negative on custom cutouts last I heard. The universal 40" would probably be your best option if not using one of their pre-selected cutouts.

I thought I saw custom cutouts...somewhere? Maybe the question was asked. I suppose my logic is moot, as I sought the custom cutout for a cheaper and wider lightbar (but from a brand with which I am more familiar) but the cost of custom work would likely bring it close to or more expensive than the Extreme LED option anyway. Appreciate the info.

I think if you had the cut out without the actual lights you might end up with a ton of wind noise. I was thinking of doing the same thing, but just opted for the full wind screen until I figure out what I want to do. On UpTops site I think the cut out fairing it like $175. I bet you could sell your original fairing to somebody.

If I didn't get the light, I would've done as you said and gotten an uncut windscreen. But Truck Brigade had the Extreme LED x6s and sale so I did the buy once, cry once thing.

I have the 40 inch universal cut out and had ran that without a lightbar for awhile. The wind noise isn't that bad especially on days when it's not high winds conditions. The wind noise is tolerable in my opinion and that could be viewed as subjective per person. At the moment my cut out is filled in with a light bar, all is good before, all is good now.

I ran mine with the 40" S8 cutouts for a good while before I pulled the trigger on the lights. Perhaps surprisingly I had no wind noise at all. It could be the type of cutout because others have said they did have noise.

I remember reading in this thread that noise was generally not that notable with these racks.

Yeah with mine I didn’t have any wind noise, wasn’t sure, but I guess if you have the light cut out the noise instant that bad either. I honestly can’t tell the difference between with the rack and without. Very minimal if any wind noise.

I'm currently running a universal 40 inch cut with out a light bar. I haven't notice any wind noise over my tire hum.

Yes if you mean the front runner mount made for pelican cargo boxes. Bx90 goes with me on trips. Pelican cargo latches suck. But that’s another story.

What is the size of a load bar extrusion? 8020? What about the t-nut sizes? I do know the threads are M6x1.

Dang, well, if I decide to go the cap rack route, hopefully the old design works decently well with the new one
