so i saved and needed a new truck - my last was an '06 Titan. really wanted a Tundra or a decked out Tacoma TRD but both just beyond my range and the Tundra sux on mpg , the main goal was get something with good resale value then in 3 yrs or so trade up for a Tundra or F150 hybrid full size.

so i got this - i kinda like that it has no stickers but it is an sr5 with 4x4. drive out was ~$49,700, with a little work i got it for $43,500 and my trade with 213K miles, no ac or heat, sunroof and one rear window not working, paint horrible on hood and roof as they all do, torn leather drivers seat, cracked and broken dash board plastic, overhead light and controls in back seat broke and fell down (i wired the sunroof motor with two leads and touch them to a battery in my back seat to power the sunroof so at least i could use it)

my first question is what did they do to fix the weak tailgate issue with Gen 2? what is the weight rating for the Gen 3 tailgates?

and my overall beef is they really should make more vehicles with sun roofs. could not find anything in my price range with one. and why does Ford, Toyota, and even Nissan again go with those tiny rear windows? my nissan had the bigger one, and i love the Tundra that the whole thing opens. trucks like this are made for the outdoors and i want an open sunroof to let more of the outdoors in! ;-)

I do think a sunroof would be a nice addition for the SR5. I’m 4 weeks and 648 miles into my own SR5 and enjoying it. A sunroof would make it easier for me to go hunting too.

SR5 is really a good Truck. Missing a few fancy things but in 4x4 has all the stuff you really need. I've had mine about a year and a half. Love it!

Loving my 2021 SR5 4X4. Got it in March, just before pricing starting shooting through the roof! Don't think a sunroof is something I would use, but there are so many aftermarket parts you could do just about anything you want to these trucks! Have fun!

Same here for my 2020 sr5. Its been a really good truck so far. Imo, if your not into serious off roading the sr5 does everything else well.

Sunroof was ok in the last vehicle I had but for a while it leaked and the drain tubes were getting clogged. I totally do not miss having it in my truck. If you got an SR5 V6 double cab you get a power rear window, open it up and it moves plenty of air through the cab. I actually like to drive with the windows down around town if it's warm and not raining more than using the AC.

Personally I like the look of 16”s over 17”s. 17”s give more tire and wheels options, but with 16”s you get more side wall which is better theoretically for off-roading.

My '19 4x2 v6 SR5 DCLB hauls my crap, tows my boat, and gets me to work every weekday just fine. Love it. Mine is a basic no frills $35k truck, not as basic as an SR though but nonetheless as basic as I ever wanted. The tailgate I think is rated for 300 lbs. I find the rear window is decent size. I thought I'd use it for more than just moving air but that's been it's only duty since day one. Talk about small though, the new Jeep truck has an oddly tiny rear window that doesn't look like you could pass a Big Mac through. I'm glad I don't have a sun roof, I think it's lighter and maybe a spec more rigid without one plus it cuts down on headroom. I had one in a Jetta. Leaked.

I came from an 07 Frontier SE. I wanted a Titan but couldn't afford it and saw the Frontier as a mini Titan in some ways.

The SR5 has everything that I needed/wanted. Actually I think the SR might've also but I wanted the alloy wheels and chrome trim like my Frontier had. And it was easier just to get the higher trimline.

I actually prefer having a rear defroster over a sliding rear window and don't like how it seems like all trucks moved to having a sliding rear window instead. It looks like you can only have on over another.

I'm about six feet tall and never really had any headroom issues in either truck that I see other people mention about sometimes. I think it's because neither of my trucks had a sunroof, which provided a little bit more headroom. But a sunroof is another one of those features that I'd hardly use, other than when I was younger and my buddies used to like to hang out of there. My wife does like having a sunroof though.

When I last looked, it might've been the 2015 Tundra, it didn't seem too far off from a first gen Titan. Too bad it was just too big for what I needed though.

Also when I last looked I don't think I found anything definitive about the tailgate weight limit for third gen Tacomas. I figure it's the same as the Frontier, which I can't remember anymore. And people argue it's actually higher with the cables. I haven't seen too many posts about crumpling tailgates on here but have heard it mentioned about Tacomas over on the clubfrontier forums a while back. So maybe it was an issue with older generations?

Yeah same question as other poster, that's not US dollars right?

I said the same for my tundra after the window actuator motors both failed.
