Redline feeling at 3500rpm

    33X12.50-15's and zip-ties.
    I have a 2002 Toyota Tacoma SC. The truck redlines at like 3500rpm when I go to pass and jerks around until I let off gas. New engine in truck. Any ideas?? I’m replacing cats this week. Engine has slight noticeable surges when under normal acceleration then when hammered down on to down shift it just acts like it’s redlined at 3500rpm

    if SC stands for supercharged… check your plug gaps first.

    I’m not running a 7th injector kit and I haven’t checked gaps. I did put new plugs in though.

    Wow. Are you at sea level? Any detonation issues?

    I would look there for solutions to your issues. That and crankshaft and camshaft sensors. Not sure if they will throw a CEL. I don't think so.

    @97tacomav6 Didn't you run into an issue with your crank sensor that was limiting RPMs?

    I’m not getting any codes just occasional misfire when rev’d too long. I live in Arkansas.

    A clogged fuel filter will 'limit' RPM by not providing enough fuel to go higher.

    Just a thought.

    No it will not rev past 3500 in neutral either. Very similar to the video. In gear or in neutral.

    then i would start with crank sensor. get a oem/denso one. I tried a cheap ebay one first and it barely worked at all

    takes 5 minutes. its in with a single 10mm bolt. you can reach up from the front drivers side under radiator to do it. nothing else needs to be removed.

    Unplug the MAF and let it run rich in limp mode. See if it revs better.

    I don't have a supercharger on my truck but I experience the same thing on my boosted car before. I needed to tighten the spark plug gaps. The spark was getting blown out by boost creating a misfire.

    It does not rev better with the MAF sensor unhooked. Still revs out.

    How many crank sensors are on the Tacoma? 1 or 2 1 camshaft sensor right?

    MAF sensor and air and fuel filter didn’t change a thing. Same redline at 3500rpm. I guess I’ll be buying a new denso crank sensor
