Took the wife close to the house this evening. We had deer around us all night. She’s never shot a buck, so anything with horns is in danger. Had a spike come in wide open on the tail of a doe. I was able to get them to stop, but of course he stopped behind 2 big trees. He stood there for a few minutes then the doe took off and he was wide open behind her again. She never had a clear shot at him. We’ll try again.

We had 10 around us at one point. She didn’t know what to do. We’re sitting on the ground (which I hate) so she had to be statue still. She did a good job. Heart got racing a little bit when I told her one had horns

Stag? Looks like a whitetail deer to me. Guy who lives near us shot one last week.

Better look at the 8 I passed on Saturday morning. Still think 4 year old. Don’t think he’s in danger of being shot on our property, so let’s hope the neighbors let him go to next year

Just got back from a week on Kodiak Island looking for Sitka Blacktails. Saw tons of deer, but only a handful of bucks. But the one buck we did shoot was a real nice one, at least for a Sitka blacktail. He was rutted up, three of his tines were chipped, and his left eye was sliced open and he was bleeding from a cut just below it. So we think we found him nursing his wounds after a big fight.

Congrats to everyone thats been able to harvest a deer so far!
I've missed most of bow season and opening rifle weekend:facepalm:, but I was able to get out this weekend and put down a doe. 1120210841.jpg
There are still some good bucks running around, but I've been working with a very empty looking freezer the last few weeks. So this was about filling the freezer. Still good to get out any chance i can. Took her with my 30-06 and she didnt even take a step. So freezer is looking good, now to get dialed in on this guy...Screenshot_20211122-225244~2.jpg

This is the 1st buck I have harvested off my farm since I bought it last year. Got this guy yesterday, he was the only one that showed up in the last few days and the smaller of one of the bigger bucks out there.
Lots of time left in S. Texas, something like 52 days left in regular season and 68 till late season.

He plowed through some prickly pear!

182lbs with 18in inside spread the main beams.

He is the buck on the right, can't imagine the size of that other buck captured in this photo.

Question, how early do you get to your stand in the morning before sunrise?

We can shoot 30 minutes before sunrise. I usually look at the sunrise time and try to get in an hour before then, it gives me 30 minutes of settling in. It doesn't always happen, sometimes it's 15 minutes before shooting time if I'm running late.

The reason I ask, I saw a friend go by this morning going hunting and I looked at the clock and it was 2 minutes before he could shoot

Don't know if he's scared of the dark or what, it's not the first time I've seen him leaving later than I would think he would.

It is the best to be able to walk out to your stand. You never know what pops out.
