Winter tires

I run Nokian Hakkapeliittas. They are awesome. Mine have to be changed out seasonally, but the SUV version can be run year around.

 

Why are you here?

 

Mine (R3 SUV) came from wtbinc via Amazon. 2021 date codes and less than a week.

I bought Nokians last winter and had a bead get damaged on a tire swap (long story) so I bought four new ones.

I was skeptical but they were a stand-up company.

 

Blizzaks are great, I had a set that went between a couple cars and had a set on my Tacoma one winter.

This year I took a stab and grabbed Michelin x ice snows for the civic I recently got. Just put em on friday, so far very good. No snow yet but it's only a matter of time, they also come with a 40k mile warranty which is awesome.

I'm in the Pittsburgh area and it gets pretty cold but haven't had deep snow. So AT tires probably would work best.

 

That's the total opposite of what I've said. Ha. Winter tires would be best in that situation.

I have ATs though. And it likely gets colder where I am. But I also have the option of a 4Runner with Blizzaks. If I only had one vehicle I would definitely use Blizzaks over ATs in winter.

 

I’m running Nokian Hakkapeliitta SUV R2's on my wife’s 4Runner and blizzaks on the Tacoma. Both are very good tires and happy with either

 

Wildpeak AT3 have gotten me through 2 Connecticut winters so far and I love them. They are especially good on the wet roads when its 35f out before or after the snow.

Another vote for Blizzak DM V2s. Anybody know what happened with the DM V3? It was announced in 2019, but hasn't appeared for sale.

 

I drive up and back from the ski hill 20-30 days a season, and I'm very happy with my Blizzak DM V2's. Gotta take them off once the weather gets warm though, they turn into roller skates over 50ish degrees.

 

I believe the common denominator, within this thread, to good snow performance are tires with siping on the tread or being directional and not tires with solid blocks with no sipes.

 

We don't get much snow here, but when we do it clogs up the whole place for a while. I usually run Nokians but have not picked anything up for the new truck yet.

 

I went with Blizzak DM V2s. No regrets.

 

Falken Wildpeak AT3W's are an A/T tire rated for snow. I run them all year around but they can be used for winter usage only

 

The problem with the snow here is all the people that think they can still drive around with all seasons! I have had snow rated AT's on previous vehicles. I definitely prefer a true snow tire to help get around all the stuck minivans, Minis, BMWs and cube vans!!!

 

This. If you're gonna go with a winter only set of wheels/tires, make it worthwhile with dedicated winter tires. Hakkas are outstanding on snow and ice and any dedicated winter tire will be far and away better than any AT.

 

I just got a set of blizzaks. I’ve run both Michelin and Nokian winter tires on my Subaru, but blizzaks were the best. Close second would be Nokian w/studs

 

In keep with the recent tire argument threads, imagine if some us were running DEDICATED WINTER E RUBBER.
