can you catch me up on the diff between a 3rd gen from 2nd gen in the tire suspension area? I feel like the 3rd gens have more room, maybe I'm wrong - never looked at them until today.

They are practically the same. The underbody and wheel wells are the same. The outside and body panels are what changed. UCA, LCA, cab mounts, coil overs are all the same

    thank you guys,

fair to say, worst case with the current setup and 33X10.5r17 just add a spacer? kinda wanna avoid spacers though. seems my only 255 options are STT MAXX and Ridge Grapplers at the moment.

I would give the 33x10.5 Kenda’s a try for sure. I love my 35” Kenda’s so far and highly recommend these tires. Closer to a 265 but definitely fits the Tacoma well.

i am leaning toward them, just trying to avoid creating a rub issue that will require +$$.

FWIW - the tire rep stated that the Kenda is 32.75" diameter [approx 0.3" shorter than the KM2 255] and 10.9" wide [almost a full 0.9" wider than the KM2 255]. the width is causing my concern as I can't solve it after the fact with spacers because the local coppers have been following me busting my huevos in my 4runner because the tires stick out further than 1/2 a tread width. so i need this tacoma as my distraction vehicle.

You shouldn’t need to worry about rubbing. The difference is so minimal and you already have SPC control arms to get your wheel located in the wheel well correctly to prevent rubbing. Adding a wheel spacer will probably make rubbing worse. Anything it might rub anyways can easily be trimmed as it would only be plastic. The real question is what offset or backspace are your wheels?

Oh yeah, you should be fine. They should stay tucked inside wheel well pretty good. Again, you can trim a bit of plastic if you need to or heat mold it but you’ll be fine clearing anything metal. If somehow you need to make room in the rear, towards the cab mount and firewall, just use your upper and lower control arm adjustments to move the wheel forward. If you’re unsure of how to do that, I can explain more but 99.9% sure you will be good.

So crazy how light those are! My 17x8.5 Kmc fakelocks are 32lbs. Currently running 35x10.5 kendas, which weigh in at 68lbs. So, 100lbs a corner.
Kinda thought about going with some forged Kmc beadlocks in the future, which are 26lbs. But, don't think its worth the arm and leg price for the amount of weight I'd be saving, so most likely just going to go a little heavier with their 33lb beadlock.

I’m at 93# a corner with my 35” Kenda’s and T4R Pro wheels. That’s around 134# total over stock in rotating mass and another 34# under the bed. It adds up but that’s big tire life.

I put Cooper ST Maxx 235/85/16's on my stock 2021 SR5 DCLB. I was expecting a slight increase in fuel economy. I need some advice. I am running 44psi in the front and 42 in the rear. The truck handles good and I like the looks however I went from around 20mpg to 17mpg. Do I need to increase my tire pressure or is this due to something else? Any input is appreciated.

1” taller probably 15 lbs heavier you definitely won’t get better mpg.

Are you calculating the gas mileage and accounting for the difference in height?

I multiply my calculation by 1.05 to figure out my mileage (5% change in diameter) . Your number will likely be different. Use the tire calculator on this site to find the difference .

Thanks. I guess I was thinking it would improve some because of the first post on this thread: Benefits of a narrower tire:
    1. Less rolling resistance - better fuel economy

I guess it makes sense that I added weight and was coming from 245/75/16 car tires. I am still happy with the look and function.

No, I was just going off of the computer on the truck. I am going to have to do a real calculation and see what I get.

The weight definitely impacts things, but you change the variables when you change tire size.

That's in the realm of the same diameter tire... 285/75/16 vs. 255/85/16.
