Heavy E-Load tires and stock suspension?

    Thanks brother only took two years to get! I agree with you guys when you say stop over researching and over thinking. If you feel like E will work for you, get them. If you want something else, get it. Either way have a plan for if either goes south. And enjoy your ride.

    I'm kinda in the same position as the OP. My plan is to do a road trip to Alaska next summer and drive a few of the unpaved roads like the Dempster and the Denali. I've been using SL rated tires all along the 82,000 miles on my Taco and have encountered 2 slow leaks. I drive some FS roads and backroads in CO and UT. So I think I'll switch over to some E tires. Given there are very few E tires in 267/70R16 I started looking at 245/75R16s and there are many more options. A couple of plusses of that size are the same tire height as the OEM so the speedo/odo doesn't need a correction and the new tires weigh only 6-7 lbs over the OEMs. I think I'm going with the General Grabbers. Does that sound like a good option?

    IMHO, you do not need E load rated tires to drive on any road. Also keep in mind that the load rating doesn't necessarily translate to puncture resistance; albeit it's a good guess as many (all?) mud terrains have a E load rating. You might be over thinking this. You will be bringing a spare, yes?

    When I went up to 285/70/17 a few months ago, I was having a difficult time finding what I wanted. I think I had found a metric 34 or thereabouts in C (forget exact sizing, may had been 295?) in the Toyo AT III or whatever they are that I liked, but wasn't sure how it would fit and what I'd need to do to make them work, even post chop.

    Ended up with the Rugged Treks in E, and while they are heavier than my 265/75/15 were in C, they aren't outlandishly so, especially on 24lbs wheels. I do notice a difference with them on, but it's fairly minor especially after I put 4.88 in. Really like the tires though, fairly quiet on the highway for a relatively aggressive pattern.

    I will say that on my truck I've got E rated cooper stmax and after about 30k they are wearing unevenly. The truck is cupping the tires pretty bad. Took it to a 2 shops to inspect the suspension to see what was causing it and they said it's because the truck isn't heavy enough to properly wear the tires. Whole truck shakes at 75 not great.

    I've ran e rated bfg a/t's on Toyota's for 30 years... never noticed a power loss and never had a flat. It's going to be a stiffer ride but the truck tracks/corners better.

    I have E rated KM3's and I haven't noticed any increase in wear to the front suspension but they are hard as a fooking rock when inflated to even 25 psi. E rated doesn't always mean the tire will ride like mahogany BUT stiff sidewalls (KM3's) are noticeably stiffer than something like a Duratrax in my experience.

    Although I did just notice my front drivers side OME Nitrocharger shock is leaking.
