Oh there will be some mods all right
Yeah the pre 22 was a fail. I can't believe they didn't at least put the Bilsteins on it.

Found a winter project. These old VMPS Tower II's have been neglected and abused. They deserve a proper restoration. And, they deserve to be listened to at ridiculous volumes! :headbang:

    Yes, I agree.

I'm leaving the TV and a few other things behind. That TV was a freebie. It will wind up in a bedroom once I get a more appropriate TV for the living room.

It's funny how a 40" TV looks so small these days. We're pretty lucky.

As I sit here watching my 60” thinking I need to get a new one on Black Friday lmao

I’ve had it about 10 years now but I’ve slowly upgraded the rest of my stuff and can now do 4K / atmos / Dolby vision so the tv is finally the weak link in the setup.

really wish you could still get a dumb tv. I don’t want a stupid smart tv.

Are any speakers restorable? My dad’s got an 70s era Panasonic quadraphonic system that Ive been eyeing up. Im sure the speakers are rotted out by now.

I suppose it depends on how bad of shape they're in. If the drivers are typical styles and sizes, there should be foam kits that will work.

I've already learned that the soft dome tweeters have been discontinued. But, I found a link to a newer comparable model. I haven't found anything about the super-tweeters yet.

Unfortunately, the founder of VMPS died years ago, and the company fell apart. So, resources are pretty limited. Kind of a shame, really, as they had been continually improving and making some very high fidelity speakers.

My ultimate dream was the super tower III!

At first glance, they don't look too crazy. But, they're 78" tall!

I agree, don't want all the bells & whistles I want to watch what I want be it surfing or a movie.

The laundromat that I used to go to has a so called smart tv, so if you want to watch something you have to find it on Roku or Hulu then your stuck watching that cause there is no surfin between programs.

It really depends on the size of the room. If you shove a huge tv in a small room, it’s gonna be a bad time. My room is probably only big enough for 65” tops.

I’ve already got an appletv connected that does everything a smart tv tries to do and does it much better. Plus it’s replaceable / upgradable in the future.

I really just need it to turn on and have one hdmi and that’s it (everything connect is switched through a receiver). Get rid of everything else as far as I’m concerned.

They sure are! I recently put some new foam surrounds on my 90's vintage Infinity's and brought them back to life.
Foam surrounds and even new cones can be had for cheap compared to new speakers. I used https://www.simplyspeakers.com but there are other good companies out there as well.

I always wanted a set of electrostatic speakers and a room big enough to put them in. Something like https://www.magnepan.com/?index

Years ago I got to listen to a friends electrostatic hybrid set up. Played the duet from the Evita soundtrack. The sound staging was incredible. It sounded like Madonna was actually in the room.
The issue with high end stereo is it can be a huge budget sink. Worse than Tacoma's and 4Runners!

Thank you for the link! I'll definitely check them out.

I was just reading about electrostatic VS ribbon drivers last night. What a rabbit hole!

Agreed, I have a couple of Apple TV boxes, one for the tv, the other one uses the optical output to drive my stereo. It sounds excellent.

Another resource is Madisound in Middleton. They’ve been supplying replacement speakers and othe parts for decades.

Thank you for the recommendation! I'm going to take measurements for the foam for the woofers tonight or tomorrow. I'm also thinking I'll pop out one of the woofers to look inside and see if there's a wiring issue causing all the tweeters not to work or try to confirm that the drivers are blown.
