5.29’s or bust with anything bigger than 35’s is my opinion on things

 

yeah I admittedly do not beat the shit out of mine we just put tons of dirt miles on it on dirt / washboard roads ...which in a different way wears the absolute shit out of things too. I went through two leaf packs before I linked it, broke an LCA, almost ripped a ball joint out of an UCA...all just from " aggressive overlanding "

 

I’m not beating the shit outta my truck. I do wheel… but not hardcore.

the bfg 37s weigh the same as my Toyo 315s just 1.5” larger. And that’s keeping same width 12.5”

 

On a real note.. I did have a mid travel Total Chaos spring under leaf spring set up. Mabe I didn’t have enough weight in the back but it rode real rough. Tried different shock valving but still rode stiff. Off road the truck preformed like a Cadillac. The truck gets used off road often. This picture is the truck at Rubicon springs. I have 4:88 with 37 BFG projects in this shot. thoes tires are the best… .supper tacky super quiet less than a BFG at ..I went with the 4:88 because the 5:29 pinion only contacts one spline of the ring gear. Wouldn’t you rather have 2 pinion splines in contact with your ring gear at all times? That means the 4:88 are 50% stronger. And I agree with you I’m light on the pedal. Now I decided on the 4 link and the truck has been down for year.. the 40s are loud as F for a daily driver. ! I can’t say enough about mid travel. Not to much money ,bolts right on. Dependable mod, I made it through all the cool jeep runs and anywhere I wanted to go. Than you get on TW and the I want more never ends… So this is all TWs fault go big right. 37s with mid travel… that’s the sweet spot!

I think where the criticism is coming from is that if you don't have the money to get a proper rear axle to match now, then you don't have the money to do proper maintenance on what you have now or fix the axle issues when they inevitably arise. But if you do have the money to run what you have now and take care of it (which it at least seems like you do) then why not spend the little bit extra on a big axle and not have to worry? It happens, builds go funky ways all the time, but ya can't really blame us for being a bit confused there

You guys are right again. Why truss an axle if your going to swap it out. The Currie axles I want are 18,000. I’ll take that 10$ bet. Axles will be next year mod. Lead times on new axles are about 90 days. And the 9’’ rear end doesn’t make 4:88 it’s a 4:86 . That didn’t match the front. So now it’s pull the front and replace with the week 5:29. So I will wait . Enjoy my truck…. asked the wife for axles for Christmas. We also want to document how much punishment the stock rear will take. We haven’t screen a 3rd gen rear axle brake under load. It will be exciting to see how strong the rear is..Big Mike at Marlin has 30,000 miles on his 40’’ tires with stock rear axle………..

 

uniballs are stronger

 

uh yeah, I'm well aware... I currently have 12 uniballs on my front suspension 3 per each UCA, 3 per each LCA + heim'd steering and the rear end is linked with all uniballs and heims as well.

 

My buddy has ran a 4.86 9'' rear with his 4.88 front for like 3 years now, its hardly a difference. Rule of thumb for the most part is a 2% difference for on road, and 4% difference will work off road.

 

Not having to buy fiberglass fenders seem pretty nice to me

 

you don’t need fiberglass fenders with any +2 kit

 

Literally though, even with 3.5 kits in my opinion, atleast for pnw wheeling where the trails are tight. Just more fender to rub or bash in

 

I have the old DK stock length arms that came with a uniball and I was wondering if I could swap in a ball joint like the new ones they have? Anyone done this and know the part number?

700 for all 4? If you’re keen on taking them apart and rebuilding then sure, that’s a great deal. It looks like it’s just cosmetic

If you can rebuild them, yes that's a good deal.

If you can't that's probably still a good deal, even sending them off for rebuild.
