Bed Light tied into 120v Outlet

Hi all. New to the site and truck forums so please bear with me if there's a better area of the site to post this question or search for answers... .

I have a 2018 Off Road Tacoma. My ONLY complaint about it is the lack of a bed light. I see there are a number of installation options available to me. I'm not looking to light up the sky and don't particularly like the look of LED lighting. I just want one or two simple white lights in the back so I can see what's going on in the bed after dark. I'd probably use it twice a year, but it sure would be useful.

Ideally, I'd would like to mount a simple light just behind the 120v outlet, that would come on when I activate the outlet from the cab -- tapping into the outlet's power I guess. If it was easy enough, maybe I'd mount one on the other side as well. Has anyone done this? Or do you have any other very simple solutions to 2018 Tacoma bed lighting?

    Thanks

Get some battery powered lights, led is the norm now but you could find some that use incandescent bulbs, or led but in warm light. You could double side tape them but they got to be water resistant...ip68 or better

Are you saying you don't like the look of the OEM plug-&-play option because it's LED? That seems the most simple method and avoids having to run wires or be limited to when the bed outlet is powered.

    He doesn't have that luxury. It’s a 2018.

Thanks. I've considered that. But when I need that light, those batteries will almost certainly be dead. The cold climate doesn't help. Plus, I'm looking to get my hands a little dirty on a light mod.

Cold, you're right...it was just a suggestion. I'm up in central Alberta where this morning was -17°C. Are you in northern states or Canada?

I can probably find the light itself. And LED is likely the direction I'll go -- just not an 8-foot string of them. But does anyone object to the idea of tapping into the wires that power the outlet? Anyone see a problem there? Thanks!

Its all the same, shouldn't be an issue. Just remember that the wires are 110v, not 12v.

If you are tapping the outlet you could instead just throw a worklight in the truck for when you need it. You have the outlet use something like
