    I worked on large commercial printing presses. We sent the fucking new guys for the paper stretcher.

    One plant had an old electric fork lift with clamps on it for picking up rolls of paper. When the clamps came down there was a rubber stop just about face high. We'd go to the break room and get a few packs of catsup, mustard, and mayo. Used duct tape to tape them all together leaving just the front open. Then we'd leave the clamp truck with the clamps up and call the FNG to get a roll of paper. They got a face full ever damn time.

    Told a private to go and get a pull rope for the electric power washer. He came back with one.

    In my metal roofing days we would send the new guy for the panel stretcher or the sky hook. One passes the time how they must in Vermont.

    when I was in the Air Force, we had the standard keys to the jet, flight line, exhaust samples, ID 10 T, and PE PSI. The best was when we sent new airmen to NDI to have their steel toe boots inspected. For a while we had a guy down there that loved to play along, and would put a bent up paper clip on top of the boot before he fired off the x-ray. Would tell the airman his boots were condemed and he needed to carry them back to the unit so we could fill out a request for supply to replace them. always got a good laugh watching the kids walk back into the shop in their socks, carrying boots and an x-ray of the "crack"

    As a bike mechanic we’d send them out for a metric adjustable wrench

    i think the best i've seen as a commercial fisherman was sending the greenhorn up on the bow with tin foil wrapped on their arms and a tin foil hat to calibrate the radar...

    Back in the day we used to send Boots out to other stations for a water hammer and or a can of friction loss. The way things are today, probably get in trouble for doing that. Miss the old days. Nothing like riding tailboard in a heavy snow storm. :(

    This seems less relative to 3rd gens and more relative to a general off topic section... just sayin.

    I work in IT Support so we have a saying about some problems Users have, ID10T. Or between the seat and keyboard.

    One of my friends that was in the navy has a really funny story about the "mast crank"

    There was the left handed smoke shifter in boy scouts.

    Why yes it is at some point it will probably get moved to that section by a mod, it's kinda fun though for a lighter side. There was a thread called the - typical 3rd gen owner that turned into this type of stuff and at times it got a little close to the acceptable guidelines for the blog as it ended up to posting jokes.

    I only assigned it after they caught a sea bat, they needed a boatswain's punch for the trap.

    I heard most of these during my time in the Military:

    * Can of [radio] squelch
    * Box of ground guides
    * Muffler bearing grease
    * Blinker fluid
    * Bottle of IR (Infra Red - for night vision gear) fluid
    * Left (or right) handed spanner wrench

    As a young Tenderfoot, I was sent out for a left handed smoke shifter. They got me good on that one, but I knew better than to let them take me snipe hunting.

    Funny thing is some aircraft actually have keys (mostly due to FAA regs)

    The new Pegasus Tanker does since the flight deck must be lockable as part of FAA compliance.
