Know this has been talked about before but still just amazes me. I just got offered $200 more for my Tacoma than I paid for it 5 years and 55k miles ago. Hard to believe a new truck can go up in value over years.

 

I bought a vw for my fiance 2 weeks after buying my taco, it's a 21 off road and had 600 miles on it. The vw dealer offered me 9k more than I paid for it. Was a tough decision to decline lol

No one makes a hot hatch like VW. Someday I'll find an unmolested R32 (for less than crazy-money).

 

Part of the equation is the lack of supply. The other part is the fact that a dollar today buys less than a dollar in 2016.

 

An offer and a check in the hand are two different things. Was this offer part of a vehicle purchase?

I used to be into VW's...way back. I got tired of dealer visits, tons of breakdowns...

 

Back in ‘72, I bought a VW bug basket case for $50 and rebuilt the motor using the VW maintenance guide for complete idiots (bought from the Whole Earth Catalog). I drove that car from SF to Oaxaca, Mexico and then back to Horse Prairie, MT where I dove it daily on rough roads while working on a cattle ranch. Several thousand miles without a single problem. Driving back to CA the front end collapsed in Spokane. I found a VW bus in a junkyard and swapped the engine from the beetle. Made it home to SF. That bus lasted for awhile, until the tranny froze up. Love everything about my ‘16 Taco, but I sure miss the old days and the freedoms of rambling around in beat up VWs.

 

I keep getting emails from my dealer offering 10% over my purchase price. Fahk-u!
