Retrax ProMX installed. Lots of pics

No change to mpg that I have noticed. FWIW, you could buy 500gal of gasoline for the cost of this cover.

The Retrax is a well built piece of kit. Install is easy and zero issues after a year of use.

 

OP - what did you end up doing with the drain tube? Did you just leave it draining in the bed as you mentioned?

Curious to know if anyone just went to a Lowe's or something and bought longer tubing and channeled the tube towards the lift gate area (if there's even a gap there to snake a tube).

I cut a small notch in my OEM bed mat which nestled the drain tubes just above the drain holes at the back of the bed (near the cab).

 

Understood - I guess I need to find out where the OEM drain holes to match the same if I end up going this route for a cover on my 2nd Gen.

If you have any pictures handy, that would be nice. If not, no worries.

OP or any other. Has anyone had issues with their retrax opening a bit on the non-locking side after driving for a bit? Mine does so I wrote retrax and they were less than helpful. Ran into a guy on the street who has one on his Taco and he said he has the same problem. Looking for solutions. Thanks!

 

When you say, "opening a bit," what exactly do you mean? I've had the Retrax for over a year now and though I don't drive a lot, I've not had any problems with it at all.

 

Here are some pics of what is happening. The left side stays put, all the way closed, because of the locking mechanism, whereas the right side seems to vibrate open a bit. ReTrax said some movement was common and that I should try shimming the rails together slightly on the tailgate side so it sort of pinches the cover together. I used the spacer shims that came with the kit, but it only was about 1/8" per side, so it didn't do much. Thoughts?

 

Here are pics from my professionally installed Retrax for comparison. I have the MX; it looks like you have the XR. Are you sure the front of your Retrax near the cab is positioned correctly?

 

Thanks for the tip @DMZ - I just adjusted the can a little closer to the cab. It makes me think that maybe the gasket on the bottom of the leading edge of the cover was pushing against the tailgate and causing it to open on that side. I lined it up so that the gasket just touches the tailgate. I drove it around a bit and it didn't open, but the proof will be tomorrow after I drive 100 M home. Dos any one know how much weight the MX Pro will put on the short bed trucks ?

 

Not sure exactly but I know it’s not enough to matter in regard to suspension or fuel economy. I saw no difference in either, nor in driveability.
