    Hey guys,

Need some advice here, I have a 2017 Tacoma TRD off-road addition currently riding w/ 265/70r17..... I bought this truck used and the guy I bought it from has a 2.5 inch ADS suspension lift on the front and not sure what is on the back. I am curious as to if I can fit 295s. Comes out to 33.3/ 11.6 wide. I'm more worried about the width as its 11.6 inches wide and I can always trim a little fender but don't want it to hit the upper arm control!!

    PLEASE HELP!

    34s might be too big.

People can barely fit 285s with no lift.

The typical rule of thumb I’ve seen around here is that stock height can accommodate up to 265s with no modifications, 3” lift can accommodate 285s with no modifications, and 6” lift can accommodate 305s/315s with no modifications.

Since you have a 2.5” lift, I suggest sticking with 285s and even then you might have to cut some parts of the wheel well and at worse; the cab mount.

I thought it was more an issue with the upper control arms than the rub in the wheel well?

    Like, so many.
It’s most often an issue with rubbing the cab mount, hence the cab mount chop.

Umm with 285s and up, if you take your truck off-road CMC is a must. It will still rub in city driving as well, like when reversing and turning.

Just don't flex your suspension and you will be fine! If it clears at ride height then what would be the possible problem?

It’s not a must. There are plenty variables such as the type of lift, the wheel offset, backspacing, and even drivetrain. I have a lifted 4x2 and 285s I didn’t have to do any cutting of the wheel well or cab.

I agree with Junkhead - I’m running 3’ lift c/o’s with aftermarket UCA’s and 285’s with 1.25” wheel spacers and it definitely makes significant contact with the body mount when reversing and and the wheel is turned either direction. I just ordered the BAMF CMC plates and will cut mine next week.

    Ha.

Tacoma’s wheel well simply does not allow for a 285 without rubbing, doesn’t matter what lift, offset etc. You can drive around the city sure, but it will rub 100%.

Hey OP, how about some Toyo 255’s? Taller and will fit without having to chop the cab mount

I’m thinking about going that route. You running 255/80/17 or 255/85/16?

I ran the Toyo MT 255/85r16’s on my 2018 Trd with a 2inch Eibach lift. Perfect fit with no issues on trails that actually worked the suspension.

    I am running AT3W’s in 255/80r17 now, but on a different rig… currently in a ZR2 diesel….

Nice man. I wish I could see Tacoma with 255s in person, I’m kind of worried the tires would look too skinny. What’s your opinion on this?

The Toyos look the beefiest of the 255’s I've seen. I find different photos often have different looks depending how tue photo was taken. I will try to remember to post a pic or two later

Yeah, some tires in the same size are a bit wider/taller than others.

I am looking for an AT though, MT would be overkill for me. Pics would be nice, thanks!

For sure! the ST Maxx vs Toyo MT is good example, Maxx are 32.8 tall vs Toyo at 33.5 tall! What I actually meant was that sometimes I notice ppl taking photos that provide a 'favourable' look with the tires.

My older Cooper ST pizza cutters were really narrow. I will try to find a pic of them then the Toyo's on my old JK.

You guessed it, I'm a fan of skinnier tires! So that said OP, keep in mind my opinion is def preference based, but I can follow up that preference with a lot of experience with the tires.

I just got 295/75R16's (16x8 -12 offset) on my 2017 Sport (done professionally by a custom Toyota shop). I required cab mount chop, trimming and lining modifications for full travel with a 3" lift. Worth it IMO, great clearance and looks awesome.
