I am looking to get a fresh battery in my 3rd gen. I do not have any additional power needs right this moment, but will be adding some soon. Is there a battery upgrade folks would recomend?

Whenever i need a car or truck new battery, i just ask for a Deka now....they've outlived every battery i've ever had.

You can move up to a 27F and grab a battery tray from a 2nd Gen with tow package.

I replaced mine with a AGM from Wallyworld. I think it was $149.00
I figured if traveling and needed to warranty it then a store is easy to find. So far good results but that's not saying much it's only been in there a short time.

Read up about the specific charging of a AGM battery. The alternator of the 3rd Gen is operated by the ECU and rarely charges over 14 volts.
You can get a tune which will allow the ECU to allow higher voltage charging.

That’s my theory also. I like Batteries Plus, but don’t see their stores too often. You can find Walmart just about anywhere, at least where I travel.

There isn't much difference between all of them. Buy the one with the most CCA that will fit into the space you have. Walmart is as good as any other. The most expensive battery I ever bought died the earliest.

Predicting how long one will last is hard to do but most all of them are should be good for 5-7 years. If you live in a hot climate they die sooner than in cold weather. It is the heat that kills batteries, cold weather is when you find out it is bad. Even a weak battery will still start a vehicle in warm weather, cold requires more power to start the vehicle.

Thats what i'm beginning to wonder over the last couple years that these battery brands are nearly all the same now. I bought the last two batteries from wally world for my boat, and tractor after having good luck many years in the past using them. Well the last two were crap, one off them not last more than a year. The 2nd was nearly a $140 everstart wally world special that didn't even go 2 years. From now on i'll just travel farther, and get a Deka if i have to spend that much, or a bit extra.

Something like 70 percent of the consumer battery market is made by Johnson controls. Pick the store with the best warranty and enjoy. I’ve had good luck with Napa and Wally World.

I had an Optima yellow top many years ago. Great battery, lasted over 8 years. I’ve read that they aren’t made as well as they used to be so the last battery I went with was a Super Start Platinum from O’Reilly’s Auto Parts. Great so far…

Walmart AGM 24f. Like $150. Just put one in my LC 100. It has more CCA than the 27f it replaced. Starter cranks noticeably faster. I run lights and a subwoofer and it has been great so far. Highly recommend.

Whats different in the charging of an AGM battery? Ive never treated them different and never noticed any issues. Are you thinking of Lithium?

The AGM from Wallyworld worked for me too.

Don't listen to the AssHats that tell you you'll need higher voltage. My AGM reads fully charged every time I've checked it.

The Deka is a better battery, but about 25% higher cost.
