so basically i was curious, i was wondering if anyone has had problems getting "fix it" tickets with their headlights? I have a friend who just got some aftermark black hid headlights and taillights, they say they are DOT approved, but yet as i asked a CHP officer, my girlfriends uncle... he stated that they lights must reflect red for a certain distance, i believe that is what he said, but he also said that the lights must be kept stock or a real stern officer could give you a ticket. i was wondering what everyone thought and has experienced from this.

I currently have a scion tc and plan to purchase my taco in the next couple of weeks. i have limo tint all around and CHP loves to get me, but they love to get all scion tcs. does anyone with a tacoma tinted ever get pulled over alot, (im currently in southern california)....

Curious minds want to know, just dont want to go through hassles of fixits, because as soon as i get my double cab i want to start buying new goodies, if you know what i mean.

that does help, but ive done that and on the last two tickets ive gotton

    1. i was on the 15 south at like 10am, i saw the officer pull onto the freeway for i kept it at 70, the speedlimit. he pulled up right next to me then pulled me over for tint.

    2. my last ticket. i was getting on the 10 at like 9pm after diner at bjs. CHP in 3rd lane gets me 5 seconds after im off the on ramp. not speeding or anything.

just curious to see if i have bad luck or its just the type of car i drive. but for the record that 2 one listed, the guy just was in a bad mood and checked my car for everything. but i only have tint no other mods.

lol yea, maybe they were hoping for a sorry office and an accidental boob exposure...idk but i do know that Tc's are known for young drivers and are one of the most... if not most pulled over cars.

i just didnt want to have the same problems with fix its with the new tacoma, since to be honest, i feel like once you do tint it just doesnt feel the same without it, :)

FYI, DOT Approved does not mean they're street legal. DOT Approved means they meet the federal guidelines for things like wiring and other requirements. Basically, they're not supposed to catch your vehicle on fire, fall apart while you're driving down the road causing parts to fly off at other vehicles, etc. It's a safety requirement approval. For instance, all of your aftermarket HID kits are DOT Approved, yet not a single one is street legal in any of the 50 States (headlight rules are federal).

I got a ticket for dark tint (and also tail light covers) in my car last Thursday, then 2 days later I got another one in my truck. Both of them were around 2:30 am.

In my area they are cracking down on DUI's big time (because the city gets some government money if they make a certain amount of DUI arrests. Since they can't pull you over for no reason, and so many people here have dark tint, they are using that as an excuse to pull people over in hopes that they just finished a beer. During they day I can be driving Right beside a cop and he won't do anything, but in town at night I ride with the windows down when possible.

My bad. I must have read more into your first post. Couldn't figure out why you'd mention they were DOT Approved when talking about fix it tickets and such since one has nothing to do with the other.

One of the gals (Jen?) didn't get approved on her annual state exam due to HID's, but I think those were the Plug & Play.

I haven't heard of people getting hassled.

But that one guy is right - I think it's technically illegal to modify the headlights like that.

As far as the tint goes, I just got a fix it ticket today. I wasn't doing anything wrong, just waiting in line to get on the freeway onramp and a city cop pulled me over for the tint only. I bought the truck back in May '10 with the windows already tinted, I knew it was just a matter of time before getting it. Guess I'll be doing some scrapping.

Sounds like the common theme is driving around late at night or early in the AM with things that are illegal is getting folks pulled over??
Interesting....Who woulda guessed that would happen....

Here's an interesting idea. Instead of asking others how often they get pulled over for things that are known to be illegal, how about just refrain from making these modifications! Aside from some medical reasons for sensitivity to sunlight nobody actually needs tinted windows. And I am so sick of aftermarket HID kits that blind oncoming traffic and aftermarket LED tail lights that are so dim you can't tell if they are running lights or brake lights. With the exception of the HID kits which can greatly increase the driver's visibility (at the expense of everyone else's around them) these modifications are nothing but cosmetic and they are huge red flags for law enforcement regardless of where you are.
