Okay so what it sounds like is im obsessing with the weight rating but really the length of the coil is the issue because realistically the number im obsessing over is just the spring rate. So I should look into a shorter coil then. But ill have to get one that has a slightly higher spring rate.

This is what wheelers says about the ome 2886 (660lb) coils that i have. My bumper is 150lbs and then a i might be adding the winch soonish aswell. Which is why i was expecting just a 2.5-3” lift with the bumper and not losing all my down travel.

Read this article to include all the additional information at the bottom. It will be very helpful for you to understand what preload, spring rate, length, etc. all mean.

You need to factor in spring length and not just spring rate.
The preload of a 14” spring will not be the same as a 13” with same spring rate.

I think you are confused on what preload is. Preload is not lift.

@Hoonigan82 I think your extra lift is a result of the bilstein being a longer shock.

Pretty much everywhere says they are the same, but I found these specs for the RCD model. Little different, not by much though.

Exactly so it has to be a coil issue.

The Bilstein is about an inch longer than the OME shock which leads me to believe that’s the extra lift. This is probably why 5100/886 combo is not recommended.

Looking back on wheelers sight the 2887 coils are 590lb rated and should offer a 2-2.5” lift but its the same length as the 2886 i have.

I’m at 3” 5100/887 w/ 3/8” drivers spacer DCLB no extra weight besides a shell. Honestly if I were you I’d get the correct OME shock especially if you plan on skids and sliders.

Looking at the pics in the first post, any more droop and the ucas will be hitting the springs anyway...

Again the valving of the 5100 is not meant for a 660lb spring. There is no way around that.

OP, you got some bad info on your purchase. With the front bumper, you should have been steered toward a higher rate spring, and the correct shock. As mentioned above, the 5100 is valved for stock springs. You need at least a 620 lb spring like the 886, and the correct shock. The OME kit is a popular option, because it works - the engineering has been done for you, removing the guesswork. You could buy more expensive, "better", options also.

I would like to eventually go through accutune for some kings but I just wanted the bilsteins to get me by until then. Im probably going to have them on for another 6-12 months so I just need help figuring out what i need to change to make this setup work. Do i need to get a whole different shock and coil setup or is there a coil i can put on to keep atleast 2.5” inches of lift without the truck riding terribly.

Figured I would revisit this because i did switch to the 887 springs and now i have a clearance issue because the 887 springs aren’t providing enough lift. I am rubbing so bad it’s unbearable I actually ripped off a fender flare. Now im in search for a new setup or different spring configuration… I explained my 886 issue to wheelers and they told me get the 887’s so now im just in the opposite end of the original problem essentially. I do have a 160 lb bumper on the front, might try to talk to ome and get their shocks under here with the 886 springs.
