Just take an air compressor and squirt air into the "to tank" nipple and see if air blows out the other side. If you don't feel any air then it's clogged and probably needs replaced

I left the parts soaking in some gasoline out in my wood shed. I'm not such a nincompoop that I would do that crap in my house lol. I did use some parts cleaner to hose down the ports on the engine block. It worked pretty well though, my intake pipes and ports are all shiny clean.

Have you checked your canister? I can’t find the same type canister on rockauto for replacement. I can only find used ones on eBay. Does anyone know if you can replace with the newer rectangular canister?

I like to use diesel to break down heavy crud on auto parts. I somewhat work on diesel trucks for a living so always have diesel lying around.

Yea I've tested mine, it seems fine. Yours is probably fine as well, they dont seem like they would clog up very easily. These vapor canisters for our trucks are discontinued, so the only place to find them it junkyards or ebay. You CANNOT replace them with the rectangular ones from rockauto, those are for the V6

So I checked each and every fuse and all of them are good. Relays on the other hand I’m not too sure but I assume they are good? Still can’t get scanner to connect with truck. Drove the truck today for some errands. Truck seems to be keeping up with traffic for the most part. Today’s drive was the best I’d seen it do since I’ve owned it lol. Truck definitely still has poor acceleration though. Maybe it’s placebo effect that I think it’s starting to run better idk. But when I put the TPS back in I noticed the mounting holes have some play on it to where I can have the TPS turned slightly one way or the other when mounting it. So I have it turned all the way one way (clockwise) before I reinstalled. Not sure if its supposed to make a difference or not but maybe it’s contributing to me thinking it’s running better today. Gonna send in the wrong TPS I ordered and get a new one still.

So I learned this recently here after changing my TPS. The reason the TPS rotates like that is because it needs to be adjusted. You're supposed to adjust it with a multimeter, let me see if I can link the post that talks about it...https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/new-user-w-perplexing-problems.744248/

Hmm I wonder if I’m on to something here. The TPS used to be just upright in the middle. And I swear it ran better today after I turned it. I’m definitely going to be researching more on adjusting it. Thanks for the tip!

Oh I forgot to mention. A couple days ago I watched a YouTube video on how to check if the TPS is working properly. The guy in the video was explaining how to find the power wire, the signal wire, and the ground wire. So I hooked up a multimeter to it. I put the blk probe of my meter on the neg of my battery, set the meter to 12v and used the red probe to test each connection on the TPS connector. The TPS plug on my 97 has four wires connected to it. I found the constant power and ground (which are the opposite outside wires of the plug but I was unsure which remaining two wires in the middle were the signal wire. Anyways, I went with the wire next to the constant power wire and backprobed it with the red probe of my meter & backprobed the ground wire with the blk probe of my meter. I turned the key to ON position and slowly opened the throttle while watching my voltage go up on my meter. It’s supposed to be at 5v at idle and goes up the more I open the throttle. To my understanding this means the TPS is good. Once I had the throttle wide open, the voltage stayed at around 9v. Now the guy in the video had his meter reading like 12ish volts at open throttle but it wasn’t a Tacoma he was working on. I was just wondering if the 9v sounds normal for our trucks or if it’s too low?

I'm not sure what the voltage is supposed to read sorry. I am however 100% certain you and I have the exact same truck lol

I think I want a gloss black paint job after I get some bodywork done to it. Then all my cars will match. I have a black f150 & the wife’s Toyota is black! Haha

I'm starting to think maybe you should just sell me your Tacoma, then one of us will have solved their problem! :D

At least I'll have all kinds of spare parts that seem to be getting harder and harder to find!

Oh yea! Also another benefit to using raptor liner is you can skip a lot of the body work because it will fill in and cover a lot of little dings and scratches! They have black, but its flat black I think, no gloss.

Yeah I saw a guy on YouTube raptor lined his Tacoma black. It looked nice, just not the style I’m going for! So messing with the TPS I actually had it turned all the way counterclockwise (if you’re facing the engine bay) now I turned it all the way the other way and my idle is super high! I can’t tell what the rpms are bc I don’t have the rpm meter but it’s way higher than it’s ever been. Then I drove it around the block and it seems to accelerate a little better but still has some lack of power. I’m still trying to figure out how to adjust it correctly but man I think I’m getting somewhere with this truck now

So with the engine running I was turning the TPS and it’s only two idles. The regular rough idle it has been, or the high idle. There doesn’t seem to be an in between. Right around when the TPS sits center position on the TB and I barely nudge it clockwise or counterclockwise will it go into the high idle or the rough idle.

From what I've been researching the TPS is extremely sensitive. Like mm of movement will have an affect. Maybe try going the high idle side and then very very lightly turning it back to see if it will change, just tiny little movements
