I'm wondering if it has to do with the 4Runner bumper design getting hit near the middle portion causing it to reflect light. I'll have to test this theory with a black fabric later.

Maybe @Diode Dynamics has some insight?

Is that just a OEM halogen to OEM led swap?

@crashnburn80 Just looking through the recommendations in post 2 and I couldn't help but notice Amazon says that all but the Phillips are unavailable. Do you have any updated recommendations or links? Specifically for the GE links.

Thanks for pointing that out, those GE bulbs are now sold under the Tungsram label. I need to update those links.

Did my first night drive the other night in about 11 months and the Hikari Ultras worked great. That's all, and nothing else to compare them to.

Just wanted to add that I did the H9 Philips upgrade on my low beams and it's definitely an improvement thank you VERY much for the recommendation. It's not "great" but it takes what I thought was a borderline dangerous stock light to a reasonably acceptable level. I got the yellow connector inserts from daveeasa so no trimming or anything, very simple.

I leased this one but my next rig will be a keeper and it MUST have the OEM light package, no doubt about it.

Please do! Just ordered a set of these and the Phillips H9 bulbs. Looking forward to seeing how the compare to my stock halogens I normally run in the winter as well as my LEDs.

I'll tell you what, now that I've got a few nights of driving under my belt, I think I've stumbled on a big problem... my OEM headlights are aimed way too low. Like they feel like they are pointed at the ground about 30 feet in front of the truck.

The new H9s are throwing more light for sure but it just isn't going any farther because of the poor aiming. I'll have to address that this weekend.

    Has anyone else noticed this?

It’s been commented a few times in this thread that the OEM halogen lights are aimed too low from the factory.

Before you do any re-aiming, make sure your bulbs are fully / correctly seated. If you haven't re-aimed your headlights or haven't had any collision work done, the factory aim is pretty accurate.

Try aiming old SilveRAYdo headlights!
Since they're only held in place by 2 metal pins, they jiggle around while driving.

Good to check the bulbs, though much harder to improperly seat in 3rd Gen. 2nd Gens didn’t seem to have an aiming issue, but several 3rd Gen owners have reported low aim from the factory in this thread. I don’t have a 3rd Gen so I can’t provide my own data, or validate that claim. But I wouldn’t place it out of the realm of possibilities based on what others have reported.

Good advice but I am 100% sure they are seated properly as I just put in the new bulbs very carefully. Plus both sides are aimed at the same level.

I'm confident they are too long right now, I did another search and found a couple of other people mentioning it so it can happen. Maybe it just wasn't as noticeable with the weak-ass OEM H11's but now that the H9s are throwing more light it's pretty clear the cutoff is WAY too close out front of me.

Must be a GM thing. The play in the pop-up assemblies on my C5 is hilarious. I had a set of bi-xenon HID retrofits in it for about a year but the assemblies bounced so much the cutoff line would practically strobe. I accidentally pulled a few people over before I ripped them out and with with HIR bulbs. I'm still sad, they were amazing but unusable.

Any idea or thoughts on whether the vland led clones would be a better light than the alpharex version since the weak spot on those was the projectors but this one is a reflector? I'm certain the opinion will not be positive but surely there are aftermarket products that are at least as good as OEM, no? Especially when the original OEM halogens weren't even that great to begin with
