As long as we are on the topic of oil could ya all tell me what the best oil is? (That should be good for another 100+ posts)

You'll be drunk quick then Alex.

That said...I would run a 5w30. The 2.7 started out life on it. I ran it successfully in both of my 2.7s

There is that guy with a 1.5 million mile 2.7 Tacoma. He changed his oil once a month at 10k intervals. I’m planning to do 6k mile intervals which comes out to 2x a year- with 0w20 most likely Valvoline and an OEM filter (2013 Tacoma)

    What?
You mean you read the manual?

    Step 1. Open box.
Step 2. Deposit manual directly in the nearest trash can.
Step 3. Blame the guy that engendered the POS, because nothing should be this hard to figure out.
Step 4. Covertly dig the manual out of the trash, and claim you finally figured it out all on your own.

OP, see how everyone gets when a question is asked about oil?

Not your fault for asking. It's just one of those questions that gets asked a lot!!! So people tend to loose their minds for some reason :notsure:

OCI and brand is the number one most rehashed topic on TW, beating out classics like Will This Tire Fit, What Suspension?, Identify This Clunk or Rattle, and My Third Gen Tune Sucks.
Everything that could ever be said about motor oil in a Tacoma has already been said here, and said a million times. So to break up the repetitive monotony, yeah, we get a little crazy.

I mean it's a pretty simple basic universal answer
and question that doesn't really need to be asked, ever

    answer:
-synthetic oil, 5w30, any kind. AMSOIL, motul, mobil, castrol, whatever the hell's logo design puts a twinkle in your eye
-interval: whatever the hell you want. 3k. 5k. maybe 10k if you don't give a fuck.
other vehicles nowadays with 10k OCI's also use bigger filters. The Tacoma filter is small. Common sense would say don't run it that long. Tacomas are arguably subjected to harder use than a passenger car.
Oil and filters are cheaper than an engine

I had a Japanese-built 1999 Camry SE that I bought off a friend in 2015. It had 48.5k miles on it, so he drove it ~3.2k/yr. He had had the dealership service it at 6 mo intervals. I traded it in on my truck.

I will say Toyota is doing 10k intervals on the newer 4 runners with the 4.0, and probably the 3rd Tacomas but I don’t own one. The 4.0 has been out for a long time- I’m doing 7k intervals on my 2021 4Runner. That 4.0 is darn torquey

Yes, but it’s not the same engine as in the Tacoma.
Nor is it using the same oil. The current 4Runner uses 0w-20 oil.
