When I had Android I had to reset the Bluetooth on the phone to fix any issues. It wasn't but 5 minutes to relink everything.

While the fingerprint reader is certainly finicky at best, it generally works for me when I place my thumb so the center is touching it (I guess mine naturally tilts to one side) and hold it there for a few seconds. Other readers will do it instantly. This one not so much. If I consciously think about doing those two things, it works every time. It's when I don't, which is a third of the time, think about it is when it doesn't work.

I've had the exact same issue. Google points at Toyota, Toyota hasn't gotten back to me yet. I tried updating the HU firmware, (Thanks @ktbell444 ) but still the same issue. I've done the network reset, phone wipe, etc. nothing helps.

Unfortunately, I got sick just before my phone arrived, and didn't drive my truck for 2 weeks. by the time the issue cropped up, i was past the return window. :-/

I hope google's Dec. update has a fix in it, otherwise, i'm stuck rocking my pixel 3a (which never disconnected on me).

    /rant.

I sent Google a message linking this thread as well as the reddit thread about multiple people having this issue. Haven't heard back from them yet but I'll be curious if I get the same redirect to Toyota as you did.

I'm hoping like you are that they catch the issue in the December updates but we'll see. They launched a new update about a two weeks ago but it was pretty small so I didn't think it had the fix. Sure enough I was right.

I'm not a huge fan of the entune system so maybe this is my opportunity to upgrade to aftermarket.

Funny enough, that OTA Google released fixed the fingerprint reader issue. It's funny because that OTA came the day after I sent my phone back for a refund. I ordered another that will be here Monday. lol

My p6p pairs great with my 19 but now I'll be paying more attention.

No issues with the fingerprint reader either

Edit - nothing but issues with BT since posting this. Updates do more harm than good...might finally be done with nexus/pixels which bums me out a bit

It didn't fix it, it just made it less shitty. It might help with your issue, but don't be surprised if it doesn't.

Anyone having issue with Google assistant becoming unresponsive after the initial command when connected to entune via BT? Mine will respond to my, "hey Google, text Mrs GJ" and say, "sure, what's the message?" After that, it will not do anything until I unlock. My reply with the message I want to send doesn't seem to be heard. Pixel support went through the typical bullshit troubleshooting stuff like update apps, uninstall and reinstall Google app updates, etc. They have since recommended that I factory reset my device but it's not because they think it will fix it, just a guess. I've also had issues with the AOD/screen turning off completely and not waking up until I press the power button. Mostly disappointment with this device

Might try opening developer settings and changing Bluetooth settings. Had issues in past with other devices and that seems to help.

I just got a entune update. Maybe Toyota fixed it?? Lol, I doubt it. We'll see. Haven't had a chance to test yet.

I've tried a Pixel 2 and Pixel 5, they both run like ass. I still can't make the call if it's Android Auto or the head unit. Google Maps is super laggy, and sometimes the connection just seems to get overloaded when I'm running Maps and music and it just outright disconnects.

Sometimes restarting the phone, the head unit, or both fixes it, but sometimes it doesn't.

I was having bluetooth issues too found this on reddit and it seems to work.

Go to settings, then System, then Developer Options (you have to enable developer options if it's not present). to enable developer options---> go to settings, about phone, and tap the build number 7 times. it will notify you that you are now a developer.

Go down to networking, just about half way down. In there turn on the toggle for "Enable Gabeldorsche" (enables the newer bluetooth stack) After that click on "Bluetooth AVRCP version" and force it to 1.4. 1.4 is the version on the Tacoma, and while 1.5 (the default) is supposed to be backwards compatible.

You need to turn off BT, then reboot, and then turn BT back on

sometimes the "enable gabeldorsche" for whatever reason gets unclicked on my phone even after i enable it.

No issues on MY21 and Pixel 6 Pro. Have you tried updating your headunit firmware? It's free to do via Toyota download.

I had the bluetooth dropping calls issue on my 2017 sport & Pixel 6. Went through all the support options with Google, updated the head unit in my truck, still had the issue. Google sent me a new phone under warantee - still have the same issue.

I tried all the developer options, still no luck. Hoping that the next security update has some effect.

I believe I've finally resolved my issue. I tried multiple USB-C cables with no luck, only to realize they were all USB 2.0. I purchased a USB 3.0 cable, and that seems to have resolved things. Everything is significantly more responsive, and any map lag I do experience matches what is present in the app when using my Pixel 5 by itself, so I'm writing it off as standard bad performance.

Audio does still get wonky at times, with it disconnecting from the head unit and playing from the phone speaker, but I no longer get the full on Android Auto crashes that I used to get.

Still really disappointed in the poor performance of the Android Auto app in general.

Looks like the update is rumored to come out in the next few days. According to Google, it addressing some issue with Bluetooth but we'll see if that's the fix for Toyotas ↓↓↓
