Source? It looks like you may get some power from coal-fired plants in neighboring states still.

Im sure it’s the standard “they are just powered by coal so they are the same”rhetoric, one has bad stuff, the other has bad stuff, thus they must be equal. Absolutely zero sense as to the AMOUNT of “bad stuff”.

ultimately the standard argument with zero intellectual thought into it, they see what they want to see from it and that’s all the deeper they go. If you are thirsty is a drop of chlorine the same as a drop of nuclear waste in a glass of water? But when your “information” comes from your social group shareing memes on a social network the depth of thinking doesn’t go that far.

    confirmation bias at its finest

100 year ago you'd be the guy "I'll never give up my horse. What is this 'gasoline'? It isn't safe, it will blow up!!" blah blah blah. Also, sorry you live in such a retarded state they can't keep the lights on. Hint: it has nothing to do with population.

If you read all my posts you would've realized that I have nothing against EVs. It has more to do with this countries extreme quest to replace the combustion engine, all under the guise of "green" energy and saving the environment. My questions/concerns have more to do with at what cost? I believe there are far better ways to conserve energy consumption and usage at far less cost that won't potentially bankrupt a country that is headed that way already. And my state, best one in the country btw, doesn't have any issues with keeping the power on. Unless you count one freak winter extreme cold snap.

The flip coin of that is what is the cost of doing nothing? ICE vehicles are only one part of the puzzle to reduce emissions from fossil fuels. We just have to continue and not look back. Hard steps to do this but steps we must take. The wheels are in motion.

Do explain how it will bankrupt the country. Green energy creates jobs and can made entirely in the United States. The cost savings of not needing our peacekeeping in the Middle East alone could be an economic boom.

This county has reduced emissions and pollution tremendously already, and we should continue to do so, just not to the extreme as some of our politicians would like. It's waaaay to costly, in more ways than one, and their are more practical ways to do it. If the green crowd were really serious about saving the environment they would/should start with the worst offenders....China, India and Russia. All of them are decades behind us when it comes to taking care of the environment and there is really no incentive for them to do so at this point in time, yet we are willing to bankrupt ourselves to achieve an impossible goal (my opinion again). If we continue to reduce our footprint but the other three countries continue to increase theirs we've accomplished nothing except to punish ourselves financially at the minimum.

I believe we are already doing our part, we're good people for the most part! We need to start holding other accountable. Isn't this a Rivian thread?!!! I hate the front end, fix that mistake first.

only because that is your mindset, not necessarily others. You should always be willing to consider another viewpoint but that viewpoint has to be made in good faith. Too many think their opinion matters because they are breathing and just shit in the pool when it comes to discussion, then then whine and complain about how nobody listens and they just have their mind made up and won’t ever change

Will phase out coal power brought in from other states by 2030, but no coal utility plants within the state.

Here is a better breakdown than the link you have. For a good ol’ boy state, we don’t do too bad for renewables.

Have a nuclear plant, but not for utility use. Did read an article that Gates was also investing in nuclear here, like they are doing in Wyoming.

My wife has a Tesla. Unless you live in north Dakota, there are chargers everywhere. Even level 3 charger that can charge at 250KW or more are easy to find. I just got back from a 1200 mile round trip road trip. The software on the dash makes it really easy to plan when and where to make stops.

California had rolling blackouts and brownouts long before the transition to solar and wind.

And if you used autopilot on that road trip, I am sure your shoulders and neck felt a hell of a lot better after that too.

The problem with thinking electric cars will save the planet is the huge toll making those batteries takes. Research lithium or cobalt mining. Currently they are no better, maybe even worse than driving a gasoline vehicle. I'm not against sustainability and going green. But when these vehicles will need multiple battery packs over a lifetime they simply are not green

Perhaps someone should get set up to do large scale lithium battery recycling

    hello Li-Cycle , I'm looking at you

So if the batteries are worse but driving is better then driving enough would one day have a net gain right? Turns out there there is an answer on exactly how many miles.

If my memory is correct, In the worst case getting 100% of your power from coal, it's 80,000 miles before the total emissions are lower. For 100% carbon free e.g. hydro electric, it's 8000 miles. For the average American, it's 12,000 miles.
