So earlier this year, I built a rifle out of a lot of spare parts I had laying around

Took it to the range to zero it and it kept stumbling with a variety of cycling issues...most notably not picking up rounds after firing a round

Went to take it apart to double check my gas block and remembered I put an adjustable gas block on it and it was almost completely closed

    :annoyed:

Took the gun back out today, adjusted it and it eats anything and piles the brass neatly up to the side and slightly behind me

How do you like that Swampfox? I am partial to green dots with my astigmatism and noticed they have some offerings in green dots.

I have 2 of the blades both with green illumination. I love them I also have an astigmatism and can adjust the eye piece and get a perfectly clear reticle. I got the Arrowhead with green illumination as well and it also adjusts for astigmatism. I tested the 5-7 yard mark on the reticle with the little gun this afternoon and it piled every shot together in the head. I can only attest to my experiences with Swampfox but mine have been flawless so far. When the AR10 gets built it will receive a Swampfox as well.

Also if you are LEO, first responder, active duty, or a veteran they’ll give you 30% off

I have Vortex Strikefire II(but would like a smaller sight for the EPC-9) and I like their warranty....even though I probably won't ever need it. I'll have to look closer at the Swampfox

I have always been a Leupold fanboy but these have won me over. Clear glass (not saying better than anybody elses but very nice), reticles are easy to acquire, built like a tank. As easy as the reticle is on the blade I find the Arrowhead BDC reticle even easier.

Love my arrowhead 1-8 just ordered a 1-10 for the ar10. A bunch of my buddies have jumped on the Swampfox lpvo train too after seeing how good the glass is for the price point

Found a BA Hanson 8.3 performance series barrel for my 300 build.

    download.jpg

I really wanted the premium series barrel, but for $138($220 for premium) I couldn't be picky

I run their 223 Wylde, but I have only run the premium series. I'm a fan of their barrels, so no complaints at all there.

They are the only ones I have really had. My first AR was an Anderson lower(I built it) with a complete PSA upper.....after that, I decided to start building them and have used Aero and BA Hanson since.

I have a buddy @Brian422 that bought one for his first AR. He seems to like it. I have only read up about them and they seem to be decent bang for the buck. I'm sure it's like most things and people with a lot of experience/expertise and the internet "operators" will choose differently.......but for the average shooter......I'd imagine it'd be just fine.

Thanks Phillip. He is dead set on building all of it he can and also dead set on a full FDE rifle. I have to admire his commitment . BCA is also only about an hour from where he lives so he can pick it up

I mean...they're the most budget of budget options

If he wants to keep cost as low as possible and its only going to go to the range every now and again...go for it

I'd be more inclined to wait till I could spend a bit more and get a Bushmaster upper or even Del-Ton over a BCA

Have him sign up for palmetto state armory. They make good stuff and it often is on sale.

Bear creek isn’t bad by any stretch, but PSA uses FN barrels. (Unless they started making those themselves)

I would advise him not to get hung up on any one thing preventing his first purchase.

within a month he’ll be building another one because BRD (black rifle disease) is real. These things are basically legos for adults.

My thoughts are if he isn't using it as a service rifle or would have his life depend on it......it'll be fine. I love AR's, but I tend to believe that I will likely(if ever) need to depend on my EDC pistol to save me over my AR. Would I depend on my AR? Of course. I built it with the best parts I could afford......but in all honesty....it's my "LEGO" and will just be a range toy. I much rather shoot pistols over my AR.

My first AR was a "bottom barrel" AR, but I enjoyed it and it let me see if it was something I wanted to get into.....although it's cost me a bit of money since
