I’ve got an 85 2wd plus a first and third gen Tacoma. I wish I had a 2nd gen, but the wife would make me live in it. She can’t understand why I won’t sell the older ones.

Right there with you! New frame, roof paint and tons of maintenance. Super clean and runs great.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
Welcome friend, yes they're cool, the relative scarcity makes it all better. I see so many identically built 3rd gens every day. You know the ones with the roof rack filled with bullshit they don't know how to use and the rack with a tent that was unfolded once and the step rails disguised to look like sliders because they're too non commital to use their trucks.

3rd gens are the prettier, younger and weaker brother.

There’s only one 3’rd Gen I would consider. They’re built in the US but only available in Canada. TRD OR AC 6MT. Kinda a shame really but it creates a void in the US market for great resale for their 2’nd Gen contemporaries.

Earlier this week at work, "Oh, is that your red Tacoma out there? That's a hell of a nice truck."

    So I'd say yes.

I was tossing and turning in bed last night at 3:00 a.m., stressing over this exact same question. NOT.

I have a 2007 regular old regular cab 4 banger Taco, therefore it is cool. I mean, by definition. I am the arbiter of cool - can't help it, didn't want it or work at it, it's just the way it is.

I loved my 1st Gen, I bought it with 108,000mi! The 1st gen had 285,000mi when i traded it in for a 2nd Gen with 58,000mi. I'm infatuated with the 2nd Gen, I plan on cranking it to the 250,000mi+ mark just like my old beast. I think it's a sexy as hell!

I got my second gen with 166,000 miles, and I plan on driving it until it gets destroyed. If I hit 300,000 miles with it, I'll be happy. As long as parts and fluids are available for it, I'm going to keep driving it.

To me, cool is that I have a paid off rig with new frame and suspension, 120K that should last me another 9 years (bought it used 3 years old). It's never gonna be a Prius for MPG but 23 in the city for a truck I am okay with.

I had a 2019/20 Nissan Frontier DCSB rental for about 2 months this summer. Was a decent ride but more truck than I need on several levels..the double cab, the V6, the shorter bed..

With the 3rd gen you gotta get a third pedal. It seems like that transmission is pretty slick
