Not entirely sure of what this knock is. Im a home mechanic. I can do most things but never heard anything like this come from a motor especially since it showed up out of the blue after sitting for a weekend. I have been told by the dealer it’s a major rod knock and the motor is toast but I want a second opinion due to the truck only having 163,000 miles and getting regular maintenance

It’s hard to tell, but I’d get a mechanic’s stethoscope and pin point the noise.
(I use a long screw driver, or long extension- see video below)

It kind of sounds like the timing chain is beating against the cover?
Noises are hard to diagnose unless you are there in person to hear them.
Either way, the noise doesn’t sound good.

Doesn't sound like rod knock to me, sounds like something on the belt drive or timing chain slap.
I'd pull the belt off and run it (no more than a few minutes) and see if the noise is still there.

The upper idler pulley threw a couple ball bearings and was the culprit Of the noise

Wouldn't be the first time, some "techs" are too lazy to do anything more than stick their head under the hood for a few minutes.
