Curious what yall think the "near" future of solid state batteries does to the short term EV market. As in, is it worth it to hold off on the EV switch until solid state is the standard? Will resale value of current EVs go off a cliff with solid state? Will different charging infrastructure be needed? Would it be worth it to swap a current batter for a solid state in the future? or will that even be possible?

The answers to those questions would be speculation. But to me personally I"d rather have an EV with solid state batteries than the current type.

To get the masses on board EVs will have to be economical up front as most rarely factor in overall cost of ownership. Good move for Toyota, most everyone is so focused on range anxiety. 250 is a nice number, my 1st Gen Tacoma I can barely get 250-260 out of it and did fine for years with that thing.

The national average of people’s commutes is 32 miles round trip, more than enough range especially if you have a home charger. Only have to charge it every week and a half or so.

What some don't realize is that the used EV market is saturated enough that used is coming down in price and you can buy an used EV with plenty of range for a work commute for some.

Here's a Leaf Plus for $26k and 100 mile highway range

My old 1st Gen had super consistent MPG as it was damn near always 21.67 and l would fill up after about 350 miles. I agree that 250 would be a good range number to shoot for as it could fill the average persons needs.

Would only get 15-17 mpg, and that is driving conservatively, fill up when it is on “E” never was able to get more than 15 gallons in it, even though it has an 18 gal tank, never ran it dry though fearing the pump would loose its prime. Think I once got 295 out of it, that was hoping we can make it to the next gas station type of trip. Do have an OME 2.5” lift, 32” tires, ARB bumper and Wildernest on it too. Not too much added weight, sure does effect the mileage.

New truck is nice, consistently 21 mpg so far, 21 gal tank. Liking the extra range, so there is that. Mainly because I don’t have to go to the gas station as often. Wouldn’t matter with an EV since I could charge at home, that would be even better as I am tired of going to the gas station. Went from twice a week to once.

A long time ago in this thread I said our current infrastructure (pun not intended) is not ready for this and will need drastic updates. Around the country I have seen new grid updates for renewable energy like solar and wind farms.
