    My mechanically inclined friends-
If you could switch jobs, same stability, same general expectations, 25% more money, but the work is mindless, washing, cleaning, mopping, would you? The work would require very little actual skill. I'm curious how many people would say I'll do whatever for X more money vs how many say No I enjoy seeing a project completed.

Customer brought in some axles he needed a new hole pattern drilled in, luckily the angle head is still on the old mill.

That's a good question, it would be hard for me to switch from where I am for more money. My boss is pretty forgiving and I can take off pretty much anytime I need to. I learned a long time ago money only makes you happy if you spend it. You can't take it with you :D

The money would be great but having surveyed electrical panels in a couple of manufacturing plants, mindless assembly line work isn't for me.

After about the 4th Oil and filter and Rotate in a row I was getting ugly.
Doing the same thing would be a serious metal gut check to see if you a really wanted to do it..
And you already went that route with electrical panels I assume this would not be much better

Why????????? Given how big the Ford 9" after-market is, that seems like a ridiculous waste of time, effort and money!

Not just, 'No!' but 'F*** NO!!!!!!!'. I need variety and challenge in my work. Repetition makes me want to jump off a bridge, and drudge work will inspire me to take someone else with me. Money's great, but it's not everything.

Inspecting panels didn't come up often and for me, I didn't mind it because it was a nice change from AutoCAD. While doing the inspections and watching what was going in around me, I immediately knew assembly line work was not for me.

It would be a no for me, money is nice and all but I'd rather stay where I'm at.

It's easy to say money is nice but its not everything, until somebody throws a 36% raise at you. That'll make you seriously evaluate how important it is to be content with your work. It's only 40 hours a week right?
I can be content on my new jetski on the weekends right? o_O:rolleyes:

Sounds like you are talking about a custodial job, not production line work.

Line work is crushingly ungratifying, did that in my youth -- and was damn thankful to have a job at all, still didn't enjoy it.

Cleaners on the other hand are generally told "go do this" and left the heck alone to do various things.

After years of being responsible for and to every damn fool in the building a 25% raise to mop the floor and be left the heck alone doesn't sound too bad.

Edit: Taking a 75% pay cut and being retired sounded better to me though.
