yea, there's some threads floating around i think...
there's a cross member (plywood) that goes along the back of the shell...drill into that.
it's what the hammock/false ceiling rod holders are screwed into

To do that I would need to screw through the awning backing plate? I was planning on through bolting it with the existing hardware above and below the wood so I can use washers and lock nuts. Think one is better than the other?

good question..i haven't done it so i'm not sure...but i do know that the cross member is a fairly thin strip of plywood.
You could probably do something like that...i'd add a backing plate to the inside that spanned both bolts.

That's a good point I didn't think about the steamer or the upholstery shop. I did reach out to a couple of shell manufacturers but I haven't heard back, unfortunately. I do have some time to figure things out I probably won't tackle the job until the end of the camping season but I'll be sure to keep you guys posted if I do end up trying to figure it out. Thanks

    Flip Pak Brochure

Last year, I offered to send a copy of my original Flip Pak brochure to those who wanted one. Unfortunately, the brochure got lost on my desk and life happened. Nothing bad, but......

Anyhow, I found the brochure, and just got back from the copy store with beautiful color copies!

    If I remember correctly, there were 4 people interested - @HomerTaco, @grp4sgt, @nano99 and someone I don't remember.

If you are still interested, let me know. You'll need to PM me your mailing info.

These most likely will not hit the mail before next weekend.

I apologize for the delay. :(

Has anyone had issue with the silicone tube that keeps the tent material locked into the channels at the fiberglass? Mine has been backing out causing the tent material to come loose from the frame. And it being silicone is near impossible to push back in.
Has anyone tried a plastic or aluminum bar to replace the silicone?

So i finally got around to fabbing up these bed stiffeners...
i noticed that the passenger side side of the bed was slightly moving out (~1/16th or less)...and then just before installed them, i had taken a drive up HWY 1 and hit some pretty good bumps at speed...at the corner of the bed, near the tailgate, the bed 'side' had a small tear from the bed 'flat' and had shifted downward, away from the bed. It's covered up by the bracket, but when i pull 'em off again to paint them i'll take some photos.

so yea...now these are installed. feeling better about it. There's also a 1/8" backing plate behind the taillight for the uprights. Second photo is the 3/16" backing plate for the horizontals.
next up is replace the 2x4 spacers between the flippac and the top of the bed with aluminum tube...

I’m tossing around the idea of getting rid of the hammock/bunk and building something sturdier for a grown adult to sleep on. Tossing around the idea of using 2 pieces of wood that you push up and set on top of another (think popping out of a manhole) this way I could potentially close off the top sleeping area from below and have more room for my dogs to sleep as well.
Anyone seen something similar done? Or at least seen a stronger replacement for the current canvas bunk?

I don’t think wood with a piano hinge style would work since it would need to clear the tent frame and edges.

that cross piece on the back is like a 2" square piece of ply...i'd prob reinforce it...and then tie into the longitudinal members (i.e. the ones that run front to back on either side - those are steel tube. the front end there the lip that overhangs the cab...so you could probably use that as support in front.
I think the removable panel idea would work...that's what all the wedge campers seem to have.

I mounted my awning coming off the back of my flippac in that cross support. its actually a 2x4 or similar piece of wood. so pretty sturdy. I was thinking I could mount some kind of L bracket to it for support and like you said use the overhang of the cab to support toward the front. it would just be nice to keep that sliver of cubby space above the cab it currently has using the canvas if possible

good to know that's it's a bit sturdier...the pics from that one they cut up didn't seem like it was all that beefy.
why not keep a similar set up to the canvas with the long rods...just reinforce the hanging point that way you can remove it similar to stock.
i'm thinking extend the base and add a few more mounting points - keep the existing cup or fab up another one and then just place a piece of ply on top using the lip on the over cab part and the side lip (i think there's probably room there?) where the steel members are.

If I were you, I'd put an additional gusset between those two uprights.

The top of those bedsides see large moment forces when wheeling with the weight of a camper/flippac on top.

The Rago fab ones I got have been super solid, but even still there actually is just the smallest bit of play if you really swing on the bedsides.

i thought about that....figured i'd see how the angle iron held up at first...i also don't want to limit the width of the gate.

    Hello friends,

Im looking for a rainfly for my flippac. I have the long bed version, not sure if that matters but I am willing to pay for it and also willing to pay for shipping costs. I'm not picky about the condition or color! Thanks in advance!

SLO is the aftermarket manufacturer for them. Not sure if you can still source from them but it's certainly worth a shot.
Without the rain fly the stock tent is kinda shitty :(
