I like a mixture of dunes and crawling obstacles. We have sand hollow and some dune/desert spots that are really fun but I like changing it up and doing some crawling trails. I don’t do anything crazy though just some fun stuff with the wife to get the blood flowing and get better at taking lines. Think she likes the desert fast stuff a little more though. I really enjoy both though just want something capable that can do both but I understand I can’t have the best of both worlds. Especially with a truck that’s not really designed for this stuff. Just trying to build the best fun truck I can and be smart about it.

Im on 5.29s and 37s with an auto.
If your set on getting a SC then id suggest 4.88s.
The truck does okay with 5.29s but you need to keep your foot into it to hold 65-70mph and im cruising at about 2500rpms.
A bit more power and lower rpms would make the truck alot more comfortable.

I’m preparing to build a slim high clearance whatever front tube bumper. My crossmember has gone bye bye. Those that have made their own, what would you do differently or what threw you a curveball?

If I could do it over, I would have made it out of plate instead. I really didn’t save much weight with tube and it was a pain to work with since it was my first time. Without lights or winch mine is 82 lbs.

Just depends on how much coverage with plates you want. Mine even with a crap load of tubes still came out 15-20 lbs lighter than my pelfreybuilt hybrid that i had. i can easily remove and install my bumper by myself. Next time i have it off i'll get an actual weight on it. But properly braced plate bumpers are just gonna be alot of steel. But so far i've liked the uhmw skids bolted on the front of my bumper, though i haven't really beat the piss out of the bumper yet. Last time i was out at the desert i did smack the bottom of it a few times and its held up pretty well (just plan on making more uhmw skids as a wear item).

This will be my first time bending tube. I’ve got two ten foot sticks, but I doubt that will be enough. 82 lbs is a lot less than my hacked up ARB I’m sure haha I’ve debated trying to build off the ARB, but I think the winch plate will still be out too far to make it worth salvaging

That looks really clean. How do these look from the top? Does the top tube hug the hood line or is there a gap?

I've got i think a 4" plate behind the top tube that the LP6's are sitting on but it does tuck into the grille. I wanted it to be close as possible but still enough room for the lights.

Same here. Mine’s been in the cowl for over a year and no issues.

Nice, just figured it’s a cheap easy mod. $13 shipped and takes 2 seconds to install. I’ll reroute mine when I do the inner fender kit.

Should the angle of this front lower mount be the same angle as the frame and front crossmember?

@Evenflow don’t you have a swing out tire carrier? If you grab it and shake it does it move? I’ve rebuilt my tire carrier for the third time and the damn thing still wobbles and shakes the rear end if I hit a bump just right. I’m convinced it’s the entire bumper moving now though. I hate the damn thing so much but I have to have the bed space to function.

I built his new swing gate and no the tire nor the bumper move at all, instead the frame flexes when you push on the rear tire

Maybe boxing the frame will eliminate the rest. I’ve done everything I can think of. Just added some rubber bumpers against the tailgate like the jeepers have. Now it shakes the shell and the bed. Boxing the frame helped, but it’s just a terrible spot for something heavy with no support higher up.

do you have any pictures of the build?

Only put about 150 miles on the truck over thanksgiving but after getting used to the lighter steering it’s really is amazing. Wife drove about 45 miles of that with no complaints, and my cousins kids at camp would have had me do 1000 miles if it were up to them haha but it was just too busy at times with kids and families on bikes
