door handle replacement help

Ok those metal handles are hard to find but are truly worth it if you can wait , I have installed two sets so far on a few customers tacos and it makes a major difference. Not just the fact that you don’t have to worry about the handle breaking but it has a very solid feel when you pull on it. Now what SteveW504 is saying is 1000% right but one of the reasons why the door lock mechanism gets so dry and dirty is because the window seal (the one that sits on the outside of the door kinda against the glass) is dry and hard and it lets excess water and dirt into the door!

 

Plkyone, I agree with the dust assessment. Dust getting into the door can be mitigated to a degree by replacing window seals. That said, I live in a high desert valley, and not only is it in the doors of my great old truck, but in the house, my wife's new car, and behind the plastic covering the instrument cluster on the dashboard. It can and does get into places one might not think of. I was surprised to see how much was built up on the latch mechanisms, but since the suggestion to remove and clean them came from a thread here at Tacoma World, it must happen other places as well. ...I did have one metal driver's side exterior door handle also break at the pivot point, so I stopped paying more for them. ...I'm replacing my Samurai's driver side handle when the part comes in. I'll clean the latch when I take it apart.

 

How is the plastic outer handle piece attached to the metal? glue? screws?

 

The handle part is solid metal, all of it.
