Does that mean you’ve gone over it with a fine tooth comb or you are regurgitating some thing your grandpa used to say?

ETA: I like the grille as well, crown vic vibes.

Yep. The old CA stupid tax. As long as your happy with the purchase that’s all that matters. Not a lot of single cabs running around.

I don't think my grandpa owned a car in his life! I did go over the frame with a fine tooth comb as I'm probably one of the most anal guys about it. Unfortunately the roof has the infamous socal paint issue where the clear coat is starting to go so that will have to be addressed at one point

I've always wondered why buyers care how many owners a "regular" vehicle has had, a sought after classic I understand, but a Tacoma???

It's either been wrecked or it hasn't. It either has low miles or it doesn't. It's either been maintained or it hasn't. All of those factors will show up on a Carfax, except for wrecks that weren’t reported.

Good luck finding that as well.

A basic bare bone truck isn't 4WD. 4WD is an option.

You don't understand why having multiple owners is less desirable than a truck with 1 or 2? Yikes.

What is it that he doesn't understand? His point was that without knowing anything more, the sheer number of previous owners offers a buyer nothing in a determination of the quality of a used car. He's dead-on in his logic. People who believe otherwise are likely (as he so eloquently put it) regurgitating something their grandpas used to say.

Nice things can get passed around - generally holding more value and being passed around a higher functioning crowd.

To the OP... How did you do? I think you did as good as you could have given what Tacomas are selling for especially in CA. I looked around and when I could find one to replace my rig new I was staring at 50k+. I decided to paint the entire truck, reupholster the front seats and add a little bling to change up the look. Even though it has 220k on it it still runs great hardly uses any oil still has a fairly firm shift!

Read my first sentence lol. If you don't see the value of buying a 1-2 owner vehicle vs a 4-5 owner vehicle then I don't know what to tell you.

I get it...your gig is that fewer owners are better than more owners. I was hoping you'd set forth the basis for your belief. Pour on some logic so to speak. I have a feeling you are basing your belief on some sort of intuition. You probably think that the odds are that with more owners there's a greater chance that the vehicle had poor maintenance or some mechanical gremlin that caused each owner to abandon ship. But there is no data out there to support such thinking. It's like sending football odds-makers to another planet and asking them to set odds on a game and the only information they are provided is that Team Red is playing Team Black.

There is a perfectly benign reason this two wheel drive, single cab, capped Tacoma has had multiple owners: Simple. Only old farts buy them. They love the cool look, dependability and guardrail -like performance. Then they die off before they can put many miles on them. So they get resold over and over. Every time I pass one on the turnpike it's always a fossilized geezer driving along with a contented look on his mug. Good vibes.

I'm only 37 but have been told I am becoming a crotetchy old man so ill happily consider myself an old geezer at this point and I am quite content when I drive it!

So now you're making assumptions that only old people drive single cabs.... Your comparisons are awful. Where are you going with this.... It's a simple fact that if you have 2 identical vehicles for sale and one has had 1 owner and the other has had 4, the more desirable truck would be the one owner truck.

Most of the time there is nothing to worry about with multiple owner trucks but there is a small chance that there is a hidden reason behind it. Why risk it, considering someone is paying TOP TOP TOP dollar for the truck.

Again, without more information the number of owners is useless. For example, what if it were true that a certain Tacoma had the same owner for 80,000 miles. But he was horrendous with maintenance. A second Tacoma has four previous owners, but each owner was meticulous with maintenance and used Amsoil and Red Line, baby. Point is, if you have no info about the care each owner gave the truck it's the same crap shoot either way. Of course if someone compiled empirical data on the likelyhood that vehicles with multiple owners had a higher incidence of mechanical problems, you could possibly rely on that information with a level of reliance depending on the quality of the data. Unfortunately it doesn't exist.

Life isn't just about having an opinion. At times you are challenged to support it with something. That's all I was asking.
