36% raise for less responsibility? I see it all the time around here. I might do it.
    Goodmorning :pccoffee:
I see some gate valve repair work on the board but no new guy scheduled to work the job with me so he can learn. Leadership at it's finest right there.

So I'm already in the role I'm describing for the last 6 months. I just do not like it. I took the role knowing in a short amount of time I could transfer to a more hands on shop making more money with more responsibilities. The question is do I stay here doing less technical work, doing fairly skillless jobs that you can really just zone out and listen to music while doing or do I take the more difficult road, which would mean harder work but also higher pay.

I'm still in aerospace but I left a job working cryogenics and high pressure systems in a technician role and actively processing a rocket to more of a support role. My company handles propellants and life support operations meaning anything where rocket fuel or supplied breathing air is involved. My shop is basically golden, hasn't shut down completely since it opened in 1965 on Kennedy space center. The work just isn't the slightest bit challenging or exciting. And there is lots of washing and cleaning since there are certs earned using our equipment.

Maybe I'm complaining too much:anonymous: or maybe I would be happier in the other shop. The other shop is the same company, same contract, same stability.

I can't help you in your decision but I will say I learned if you aren't happy at your job, you aren't happy anywhere. It goes with you, I learned that the hard way. I dreaded going to my last 3 jobs, I love where I'm at now and look forward to coming in.

    Good morning Shane and Crew.

It was 34 and 90% humidity here in Pensacola this morning. Had our first ground frost last night and the cold weather sensor kicked the pool pump on last night.

    But it’s a “dry cold” right? o_O:rofl:

I was born in Georgia and was down there last February for my dad's funeral. It's a different kind of cold than it is up here. It cuts through you more there when it's 40 than it does up here.

But we also get down to -40...

I would say you are under selling your current job a bit. Mopping a floor is a no skills job required job, the worst result is the floor looks bad. If you are working on rocket fuel and breathing air equipment I would say the work carries a lot of responsibility even if easy.

I spent my working life in service positions, which could be described as routine tasks punctuated by save the day tasks. The better you do your routine tasks the less save the day tasks you have.

While the daily routine of inspecting, greasing, filter changing, etc isn't the least bit glamorous it is important, it you miss a checkpoint the world won't end but machines will go down, production will be lost and the folks working on the line might end up with a short check. Even if most people have no idea what you do your work is important and people are depending on you.
