I know what you mean, there's a guy who lives near us like that.

I used to have an old Schramm tractor and would decorate it with Christmas lights and park it in the front yard, people loved it. I sold it a couple years ago cause that's all I did with it. My wife said people have been wondering if we were doing it this year? I said no, I don't have a tractor I would park outside for 6 weeks and put tape on. They are all in a shed, we have 3 vehicles and they all sit out though

Growing up we saved and used the last scrap of everything because we didn't have much. :sadviolin:
I often find myself thinking "...this is a perfectly good ____ that someone could use..." The problem is finding the person who could use it.

    Years later...

Although I have a tough time tossing something that could be used, reality (or perhaps my own potential mortality) is setting in and I'm getting better about tossing stuff.
Also during my work years time was always at a premium, I would buy something that I knew I had to save time looking, now I'm focusing on using up the hardware, etc that I have stockpiled --
-- or maybe just piled. :anonymous:

I have several things with bolts, nuts, etc. in I need to go through and sort. Thank goodness I quit going to estate auctions

The last one I went to a friend went with us, he had a long bed Dodge truck and we filled the bed with small stuff, it was cheap

The problem is we can become a prisoner of our stuff, especially the small stuff.

I have hardware that I haven't needed in 25 years, moved it around dozens of times. Hate to toss it because "I paid for it, I might need it", meanwhile it takes my time - the most expensive thing of all.

"if you can afford that many of anything, you can afford to help people who need help"

I see his point -- to a point.

What I don't quite understand in his logic is the connection between the tractor guys hobby and the implied requirement that he should be (or isn't) helping "people who need help".

The tractor guy worked and retired, if he wants to spend his remaining days in his shop tinkering with tractors that is his business. He has already contributed to social programs his entire working life through the taxes he paid.

Damn, I want one of those. There was one for sale an hour or so up the road a few years back, but the guy wanted stupid money for it... I don't know if you YouTube much, but there's a channel called "Diesel Creek"; a fellow has a stationary version.

I bought that one for $600, had to make a new fuel tank and have a magneto made for it. It ran great, we would drive it through parades, ugliest thing in it but was cool.

Your young yet lots of time to figure things out .

Also a great way to get back at your kids let them deal with it.

I have noticed the things we keep might have a use for us in the things we make and build to the next person just scrap.

Back many years ago my mentor the Gunsmith passed away since I was not really family and his family could care less the whole shop was knocked down and hauled away .

Everything all the machine tools all the custom made tools!!

So our treasures can be the next persons scrap and junk

I get his point too and like I said, he don't even know him. We all have hobbies and what's the point in making money if we can't spend it.

    Reserected from the dead.
I just counted my cylinders the other day.

    37:1

That's how many internal combustion cylinders I have to maintain.

    What's your cylinder ratio?
