Sway bar on or off?

how many of you guys run your truck daily without a sway bar? thinking of running mine but want to hear some peoples personal preferences. i live in la so i get the slow traffic daily.

 

Unless you do heavy rock crawling keep it on. It's a safety device.

 

I drive exclusively on the road and always leave it on and have no reason to take it off. Even mild off roading I wouldn't take it off.

 

Mine has been off for about 60k, only about 5k with it on. Super annoying on the Sports.

Never a tire where I didn't want it on road, excellent off road, and very comfortable.

Test it and see if you like it.

 

I just took mine off at 45k, literally took it off a week ago. On a stock suspension I definitely would not do it. I upgraded to a stage 3 icon set up and the roll is very minimal and the truck feels almost the same. I really only feel some body roll when taking a turn at speed and accelerating but it is not enough to think the truck is anywhere near rolling. I am currently on stage 3 icon (added some preload to level), 285/70r17 toyo at3's and Icon wheels. What kind of suspension are you on?

 

Stock OR that doesn't come with a sway bar, and the body roll is significant on those long trips on the Missouri Ozark back roads. It's undeniable when you look up and realize meema is riding your ass in the switchbacks

 

It is easy to remove. Take it off and see how you like it. If you don't, put it back on lol

 

I removed mine and haven't looked back. I could hardly feel any additional body roll, but it's there if you are paying attention. My wife couldn't tell any difference.

I think it really depends how you react in emergency situations too. If you are prone to swerving to avoid something, you might want to think about leaving it in. If you just slam on the brakes, I don't see any reason to keep it.

 

Are you implying that ORs don’t come from the factory with a front sway bar? My 2020 OR came with one.

Took mine off stock. Now have weight and shocks tuned to my liking, with chevy 63s in the rear. Fawker will make you stare at the ground on a long enough turn and pick up a front tire, doubted I'm used to it from prior crawler builds that I daily drove. In stock form with no sway bar, I found the ride a ton better since it wouldnt yank the truck into the side thats dipping into a pothole

 

I would not remove it if you plan on running stock suspension or even aftermarket coil overs. Both setups are way way too soft. noticeably more body roll (especially on the highway).

I have my sway bars off. However, I am running re-valved Icon 2.5" coil overs (0.018" shims on rebound and compression) plus Icon 2.5" S2 omega bypass shocks per tire upfront. Only now is it "frim" and "safe".

 

I took mine off for about 5-10k miles and recently put it back on. I haven't noticed any difference offroad but on road is night/day. Better with IMO.

 

I haven't had a sway bar on for upwards of 30k miles. I don't mind the added body roll and haven't ever felt unsafe, even when driving "aggressively".

BTW, I've not had the swaybar on my previous ADS with 700 lbs coils and 650 lbs coils. I'm now on tuned Kings with 600 lbs coils. I've considered putting it back, but honestly it hasn't been an issue driving without it. As others have suggested, try removing it, see how you like it. Try to take some controlled aggressive turns and see if it seems unsafe to you.

I have disco’s on my Tacoma. So, I leave the swaybar on, I disconnect at the staging area before hitting anything harder than a moderate trail. For fire roads or roads that just aren’t paved, it’s not worth it to crawl under the truck to pull the pins or even air down. Imo

 

Every situation is different but generally speaking, if someone else causes an accident it's better to brake as hard as possible and hit them if you can't stop in time. It should be considered their fault and insurance should take care of you. A good dashcam always helps too. If you swerve and damage your own vehicle or cause an accident with someone else, it can be considered your fault making you liable.

Happened to my brother in law last year. Someone came into his lane, so he instinctively swerved right and hit the curb. Ruined part of his front bumper. He called insurance and they considered him to be at fault, not the person who came into his lane. The person who caused him to do this also didn't stop after, which doesn't help things for him. They recommended he should have let the other person hit him.

I think as far as the sway bar is concerned though what's best doesn't matter. Just what you instinctively do as a driver. Some people instinctively swerve, and some just lay on the brakes. Not a whole lot you can do to change your instincts, so I think it's best to keep them in mind.

 

They have one, it's smaller on the off-roads.

 

I'm the event of an accident, the insurance adjuster "could" void your policy. I don't know of any cases where this occurred but I also don't know anyone who got into an accident with the sway ar removed

 

I mean, you're talking to TW members, who the vast majority have "altered" their vehicle with non-DOT approved parts... The insurance companies could "void" the policy of a lot of these members, without looking at the swaybar. As you indicated, that just doesn't happen.

 

Got any details on the disconnects? As far as I knew there weren’t any 2nd/3rd gen disconnects that work since the loose sway bar will destroy your cvs when disconnected.

I’d love to be wrong through if someone has come up with something new that works and if so I want to give them my money.
