Started hearing this noise two weeks ago, my mechanic doesn’t know exactly until he starts taking things apart. He’s thinking something with the engine or valve. Is this sound normal or something I should worry about and get it fixed asap ?! I will upload a video

Well the fuel injection system is noisy and makes a ticking sound. Hopefully this what your hearing.

All though there are a few early (2016 & 2017 mostly I believe) trucks running around that may have an issue with cylinder#1 burning a valve. Hopefully this is not what your hearing. From what I read, toyota has been replacing that side's head with a new one. Do a search for it in the 3rd gen forum only. It will pop up.

All the threads I've read about the #1 cylinder valve issue indicated that the first they knew about the problem because of a CEL and error code. Ticking wasn't the first symptom. My 2021 ticks from the noisy fuel injection system, so it's not uncommon for these trucks to tick and sound like something is up when it's not.

    Welcome to tacomaworld.

If this is your first Taco and you've only owned it for a little while you're probably just now noticing the fuel injection system which does make a ticking sound.

These engines don't purr, they sound like a Japanese business man from the 1970s furiously typing away at a typewriter as to not bring his family any dishonor.

    I don’t think it’s a burned valve cause wouldn’t a check engine come out

He thinks it’s something with the engine or the valve? Sounds like a great mechanic.

After watching the video...maybe this is why Toyota put out that diesel video a few months ago.

Sorry. Someone had to put that out there

But seriously, I would stop by Toyota and just have the service guys listen to it. See what they have to say. It really doesn't sound normal to me. And I have not heard another Tacoma sound like that.
