    We've got enough Star Trek to do the entire tree in just that, so the second tree discussion has come up for more than a few years.

    Also been incredibly lucky that our kitty has never crawled up in it and has only broken a single ornament over the years. It may be tempting fate to put up a second tree in the house.

    Talking about cats; here’s our previous trees we had that our-cats loved so much they started eating the plastic pines, which resulted in a visit to the ER Vet hospital.

    We have 3 cats. Tree protection is a must. None of them like the vacuum. So a few years ago I made a "tree deterent" that works flawlessly.

    It's a motion switch that powers an outlet. It plugs into a nearby wall outlet and is neatly hidden under a chair. Motion sets off the vacuum for about a minute or so. When we want to be near the tree we just reach down and turn the switch off on the vacuum. If we accidentally fired it off you just press the rectangular white button and the whole thing resets after 30 seconds.

    The girls know exactly what it is. They haven't set it off in at least 2 years. Our male is young and was just a kitten this time last year. So he tempted fate a couple of times Friday when the tree first went up. Nothing since.

    Our smaller second tree is protected by an old Radio Shack motion alarm.

    I normally have a massive Christmas display, but moved into a rental this year and got an email banning Christmas lights :pout: Might have to put up my 10 foot Santa in the truck bed out of pure spite.
    Also, this is a hell of a tree. Two stories high??

    @theolee
    @Plain Jane Taco built a little motion sensor thing, a small dust buster vacuum is hooked to it. Pretty sure it will solve your Christmas tree cat/kitten issue.

    Yes I did....a few years ago. Our cats hate vacuums.

    It's a simple motion sensor....the kind that controls lights when you walk into a room. But instead of controlling lights it powers an outlet....which in turn fires a small hand vac.

    If it senses motion the vacuum will run for about a minute. If we accidentally set it off you just tap the white rectangular switch and it will reset after 30 seconds. If we want to be near the tree we just turn off the vacuum....we don't even touch the sensor.

    It sits under a chair near the tree. It works so well that our 2 female cats haven't even set it off in 2 years. They remember it. Our male, who is young and was just a kitten a year ago, tried his luck with it a couple of times last Friday once the tree was up. He was thwarted. Hasn't been around it since.

    It makes for a peaceful holiday. No one is screaming at cats constantly.

    20191129_225751.jpg

    It's powered by an extension cord.

    Made a subtle change. I added a green LED spot to the area on the right side of the garage.....just to fill in that spot.
