Now if Toyo would make a 275/70/17 in a sl rated tire I would buy them. The 285s are 46 pounds

Hey @Darvy.. I know this is a old old chat. I'm in Barrie just getting my 22 TRD Sport Premium DC/LB in Dec. This time I want to up the tire size as you have. So you are saying 275 65 17 with trd pro sema's (17x7, 4mm) will not rub anywhere? I'm keeping the mudflaps on due to the over zealous the sand/salters that come winter time as you well know

I’ve ordered the wildpeaks in 275/70r/17 which are going on sema 17x7 rim this week. Excited but a bit nervous of the some saying how sluggish it drives. I have a DCLB Sport with Eibach 2” lift in front and 1.5” in rear. Not to worried about rubbing from what I’ve read from others.

However, For those who have this set up, how does the taco drive on the highway going 65+ mph?

Flat highway? It’ll hunt around 70mph, basically stays in 5th any higher. I honestly don’t think my truck has gone into 6th unless going downhill at 70. It’s definitely not horrible, but I’d be lying if I said you wouldn’t notice it. Kinda hard to explain it, but if you’ve ever driven a truck with bigger tires, then well it drives like that. I’ve found that throwing it in S5 keeps the trans from constantly trying to hunt. Not perfect, but works well enough.

Rides nice at highway speeds for me, but this is my first truck I've ever lifted and upgraded the tires so I don't have anything to compare it to. Just took it on a 1200 mile road trip and I have no complaints. I row my own gears so I can't speak to shifting issues. I do feel like it leaves much to be desired when accelerating though. Setup: factory lift (2 front/1.5 rear) with 275/70r17 wildpeaks (33 psi for the road trip which got up to 36 once warm) and TRD pro wheels.

The 3rd gen taco seems to gear search even with stock tires. But with everyone’s experience with 275/70r/17 I’m wondering if I should stick with 265/70r/17.
Does any anyone use the sprint booster with the larger tires?

My tacoma has 275/70/17 wildpeak at3w's on trd pro sema wheels with a trd lift kit.

My previous vehicle was a Nissan Titan, which felt like a truck when driving it. Then I traded it in for a tacoma and it felt more like a car than a truck when driving. A couple thousand dollars later, I added the lift, new wheels, and new tires.. now it feels like driving a truck again

Good to know. Was getting kinda nervous and possibly regretting on making the purchase. Thought I might have to settle for the 265/70/17’s. Didn’t want to do that, but with the more positive responses with those who have the 275’s, think I will get them. Will have to think about getting some running boards to get in it though, haha.
The tires are going on this week, so I’ll respond with my how it drives.

I felt the same way. 275s look wicked and fill out the wheel well nicely, but 90% of my driving right now is commuting 50 miles a day. I ended up going with 265/70R/17 BFG AT KO2s C-Load range tires. The weight difference alone is ~46 lbs vs. the 275 E-Load ~55 lbs each. I get it that E-range tires are much tougher, but I don’t don’t rock crawl. Overall, I don’t regret it in the slightest…for now. In a couple years when I have a new daily driver, I plan on keeping this truck and may go with 275 or 285s.

My commute is only 10 miles. Not to bad. Do you have a lift? How do the 265’s look?

I am installing a 2 in lift in a couple weeks. I ended up installing the wheels/tires this last weekend. They are 275/70R17s mounted on 17x8in +5 offset wheels. I had a little rub on the front OEM mudflaps, so I pulled them off. We’ll see if I reinstall them after the lift is on.

I am looking forward to getting the lift installed, but pretty happy with it so far.

Sweet ride. You’ll love the look with the lift and those tires. What lift are you going with?
The rub will go away after raising it up. How’s your gas mileage with the 275’s? Gas mileage will prob go down a bit more with a lift.

    Thanks.
I am going with a Bilstein 6112/5160 combo. I’ll also be using a 1/4” driver’s side Taco Lean spacer and setting the struts to the 5th circlip. In the future I am planning to install a winch & steel bumper, so I am upgrading to 650 lb springs with the kit. On the rear I am planning to install 1.5” Icon AALs with the overload springs left in.

I am expecting to go down a couple mpgs, but I can recoup a bit by not laying into the gas pedal as much.

Anyone seen or heard of an SL rated tire in this size? Anyone ever seen a 265/75/17?

Highly doubt there is any 75/17 tire, never seen one.

Man, I wish they had C load in that size, that would be an absolute dream. The tire that I want is 59 pounds, and I really really want that size. I’m open to 255/80/17 but I like the wider tire look so much better, I think anyway haha. It’s just awesome you can have true 33” with some minor plastic trimming.

Pretty sure I’ll end up getting 275/70/17 grabber ATX, but 59 lbs damn…

Nokian makes a C load AT in that size and it's 44 lbs. An SL is enough to carry over gross on the Tacoma, though. It doesn't need more load carrying from the tires.
