Recovery rates in Utah are capped at $165 an hour. The two Towing companies I dealt with (the first one I called didn't have the equipment to haul my car off the trail) both charge exactly that for off-road recoveries. It took six hours to get my car off the trail and back to where I was staying in town so it was $990. Worth every penny as my car was broken in a dry stream bed with a storm coming-in that night and I did not want to leave it up there to get washed away.

For anyone who may need a tow in the Panguitch/Bryce Canyon area of Utah, I recommend Chris at Bobcat Towing 100%!

I think it starts when they get the call (I work in emergency response and on after hours call-out's I get paid from the time I leave my house until I return). In the case of my tow, they knocked a couple of hours off since my friend and I helped, plus the tow truck broke-down twice and got stuck once.

Man, this bums me out. Why is it, when there's a seemingly honest, really nice guys, there's always a dark side to them?

Well, I don't know the facts of the situation, so I'm not going to pass judgment. I will say his character doesn't align with the insurance allegations.

I'll bet it's some kind of legal or business misunderstanding. Perhaps AAA had a reimbursement business deal or loophole that was being exploited or that the towing business was utilizing and AAA wasn't happy with the deal given Matt's business success. I guess we'll find out! I'm still going to watch and follow the channel as well.

Agreed. I can’t imagine, with the visibility his channel gets, he would be going out of his way to defraud insurance companies, jeopardizing both his primary business as well as YouTube revenue (and risk felonies/jail time… over $15k…)

Meh, this doesn't seem *that* dark and kinda aligns with his character. Always making sure the customer is taken care of.

It's human nature to bend the rules.

In most of the scenarios it seems like he was trying to help someone (while simultaneously screwing auto club). One guy didn't have road side. So he told the customer to make an account, then report tow later on. Another one seemed like the customer didn't have money for a recovery, so they had them use their aaa. If true it was all shady and wrong. But he technically was helping someone in the process.

I am curious to see what comes of the claims

the optimist in me is hoping it was someone in their finance/ admin making a mistake rather than outright fraud

Also, more than once I have heard someone tell the story of how they broke down, called AAA to get a membership and then got the free tow. It’s not uncommon

Trading construction materials for fake business at AAA expense is certainly fraud. I can't imagine a situation or further info that would make that not fraud. How long/well have you known Matt?
