Just get a 2WD LOW mod and the R issue is solved. I can’t imagine my tuck on anything lower than 4.30 on 32” tires. It already screams on the highway and first is plenty low IMO.

Yeah, I might be an odd bird and I'm on stock tires but I don't hate 1st and 2nd too much at all. I probably drive too lame.

Of course reverse is redic but 2low is great for that.

Just wish I could drop in a smaller cog for 6th to make it a true cruise gear of value to get rpm's down to 1500 or so at the speed limit, might save an mpg or two.

AT's have a different 6th, right? No way to steal that 6th and drop it in? Yeah, I'm dreaming now...

At 60 miles an hour in sixth gear a stock third gen Tacoma will easily do 27 miles per gallon.

Regular SFOB or coyoza is what most people are running

But what does 5th do at 60? Something near 26.5? If 6th could do 28 or 29, wouldn't that be better?

Also, this may be cali-specific, but 60 is a dead zone. Traffic either goes 45-55 ish when it's heavy or 70+ when it's light, there isn't much in between for extended periods other than the stretches in between bottlenecks where people don't get up to speed. Towing is 55-60 (55 legal limit) but anyone not towing is going faster than that.

    And T case :D

That's pretty true across the Midwest as well. But if you're out in the open you can do 60 in the right lane all day and that bro who flew past you at 80 and his Ford Raptor, you'll see him at the next gas station anyway so what's the point? Lol

Not really sure how you get better mileage and 5th since it's lower gear and thus a lower ratio :notsure:

I have the 2wd Low mod installed, and it's great, so reverse isn't THAT much of problem anymore. It would have just been nice if reverse was shorter from the factory so I didn't have to push a button and turn a dial every time I want to back up a hill :notsure:

I still wouldn't trade this truck for anything else, just the little things I think about sometimes.

The two things I've been able to find seem to indicate that they are geared the same at 2.57

Maybe 6th gear isn't so bad after all. I looked up the gear ratios of my previous car and if the internet and my math are both correct, to do 75mph (I-80 between Lincoln and Omaha) I'd have to be at around 3100 rpm in 6th while the Tacoma is only at around 2500 rpm.

It’s not bad. Any lower in the rpm and it doesn’t make enough power. That’s why the auto sucks, it tries to run at 1800 rpm and makes like 3 hp

Darn I really haven't been paying attention to TW this past year. Everyone moved on from OVTune now then to these as the main recommended ones? (Or just some rebranding I missed?)

edit: Oh seems like SFOB is a tune name/type from VFTune which is a rebrand/reseller name for the OVTunes right? And Coyoza must be something new.
