Okay, so I bought a very high mileage (250k) 2013 4x4 4cyl Automatic Access Cab.

The transmission "kicks" a small amount on upshift. I don't know anything about Tacomas. Is this normal? Usually that is a sign that you need a rebuild.

I starting looking at salvage yard listings, but it would be easier if I could search on the OEM part. Anyone know it?

I have ordered new tires, front rotors, pads, one wheel speed sensor (based on code) and a few bulbs...almost every dash light is on! I have researched on this forum how to reset the TCS (not tried it yet as I am getting some 265/75s on it Monday). Other than transmission odd shift and the stuff I mentioned, a solid truck. I may ignore the transmission as this is for my dog, going to the dump and surf fishing (but it has to get me six hours driving to the beach and back a few times a year).

Do you know the maintenance history?

A hard shifting trans is not necessarily a bad thing as long as it also isn't slipping. The previous owner might have even installed a shift kit to firm up the shifts and help with longevity and heat mitigation.

I do not, but it doesn't look like anyone has been into it. The person I bought it from was the only owner. It was used for an engineering business.

Your transmission should be the A340F four speed automatic transmission .
I wouldn't touch the transmission until you get all the dash lights to go out as your trucks transmission uses inputs from the vehicle computer to control upshifts and downshifts .

I have accumulated some information regarding your transmission at this link .

Thank you sir. I do intend to sort all the other issues long before looking at the transmission. I find it odd that some folks let stuff like that go. But yea....small steps will get to the point where at least the computer thinks it is healthy. I simply want to keep an eye out for a scrap yard pull if one comes my way.
