What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

The Power seat (available on Limited Models) is capped and powered at least on TRD SR5 trim models. This is factory spliced into the interior (Power) 30amp circuit.
However from measuring the wire gauge at 16 and wire length around 6ft, it can only take about 10-15amps.

 

I will always love these first generation tacoma.

 

Is the dyna mat suppose to go on the inboard side of the outer skin of the door panel or on the inner side of the door card, as you have, in your photo?

 

I did both, but some installs that I referenced showed like in my picture.

What happens when you run both heated seats and the wipers? Will that overload it? I imagine that wipers and heated seats would be used at the same time in most cases.

 

I asked reallifeonhold that same question, he said he tested that scenario and didn't have any problem. I haven't tried it personally yet, although it's supposed to rain tomorrow might give it a try.

I'm reading the instructions and it suggests that "the heating unit should be protected by a fuse with a maximum rating of 15 amps." The only 15 amp circuits are the ECU-IG, which I am inclined to leave alone, and ACC (accessory?). The 20A circuits are the wipers and 4WD. The 12V constant wire has a 15A inline fuse, so I think that would break before blowing the 20A wiper fuse if there was a short in the heater pads.

I'd be curious to know how many amps the wiper motor is pulling.

 

Gotcha. Shouldn't be too hard to test with a multimeter. I'll be doing some work on my truck this coming weekend and can test it.

 

I need to do this. How hard was it to install? I plan to do this on the car port at home only thing is that port sits high vs garage ceiling being low.

 

Not too hard, the worst part was my cables being a rats nest while setting up since I got this second hand and they had A LOT of wound memory. If I bought new cables I would have had it done in an afternoon. If your carport has exposed beams like my old one you could have it up super quick with an extra set of hands

 

New rack is done, and on. The License plate is relocated ( had to straighten out too). No more bashing rocks with it.

Also replaced both driver and passenger handle for the 1,334,567th time.

And installed the rear flares.




New rack is not only stronger, and more user friendly... I shaved 22 pounds compared to the old rack. Doesn't sound like much, but that's about a 20% reduction. (was 115 now 93).

Do both. The mat on the outer skin will give you the most sound deadening. The mat on the inner side will give you water proofing. Closed cell foam goes on the inner side only, with a small exception: put an 8" disc directly behind the in-door speaker, on the outer skin.

Yes most definitely. Actually had a car lock up there brakes last night while me and the family were at a red-light so I made this up for the trucks. Verrry close one.
