Hey gang. New member but not an Taco owner (yet). Almost pulled the trigger on a 2022 SR5 today but ended up walking. That's a different story but on the truck I was looking at, the front bumper looks like it doesn't have any clear coat on it. There is always a difference in texture and shade with the same color sprayed on different types of material but on this one it looks like there is little to no clear all. I explained it to the salesperson and even showed him the difference with other cars on the lot but he did not have an answer. There was only one other 22' but it was in silver so it was much harder to see the difference. The pre-owned Taco's also looked better then this so my guess is it's a quality issue. This particular truck was built in Baja California Mexico and if I am not mistaken that is where a lot of the previous paint issues originated from? There is still a chance a deal may be worked out so if I end up going for it I feel they need to fix it before purchase.

Is there a crappy clear bra/clear spray bra on it? That doesn't look right

There isn't. The only options from the factory are the Tech package and film protection on the hood and mirrors. I checked and those are there, I could see the edge of the film. The bumper does not have it.

Actually, perhaps there is a spray on bra or something on there. This was the original addendum items the dealer added but I refused to pay for obvious reasons. These items are already on the truck so the 'Appearance Protection' may have something to do with it. Before someone asks what Value Upgrade package is, it's window tint, wheel locks, and all weather floor mats for a nice low value price of $999! Add in running boards for $899 when they are $749 on Toyota's site you can see why I walked.

That looks like crap. Like it was wrecked and they put a new bumper with the wrong paint.

Dude there is a difference between painting plastic versus painting metal. A flex agent is used when painting rubber or plastic which gives you a different texture. Buy it... or not.. but understand that there is a difference.

Post in the Barcelona thread. My Silver Sky bumper matches the fenders in terms of shine. The clear bra that Toyota offers is crystal clear and doesn’t give the paint a matte/satin finish.

Agree. I also see the same exact color / finish on both surfaces on my Taco.

Maybe they are painting bumpers now like the lower rocker panels.

Not normal, should be smooth and glossy. I remember seeing 2nd gen radiant red tacoma's on dealer lots with the same issue on the front bumpers. Not sure exactly what happened as lots of variables occur in painting. I suspect it's an issue with the paint or clear coat itself and not the method in which it was applied.

I wouldn't buy it without them first fixing it. Yes, a flexing agent is added to plastic materials but it shouldn't be this bad. Is the other side like this? I suspect that it was damaged in transport and had to be repaired.

When I worked for Ford they could receive a damaged vehicle, and as long as the damage didn’t total 20% of the dealers cost it could be fixed and not disclosed to the buyer . Real shitty but it does happen .

Interesting, I know CPO's can be sold with prior damage as well.

The OP already acknowledged this if you read his post.

Clearly something is off, there is either a production issue, poor re-spray, or a sub-par spray on protection film applied. OP - I think you made the right decision to walk away, unless the dealer can fix to your satisfaction.
