Hey OP - welcome to TW! Like many things in life, it depends. The spread and overlap of the gearing is not uniform. So, it depends on which gear you are shifting from/to. I tend to rev it higher (~3000 RPM) going from 1st to 2nd than from 5 to 6 (2250-2500 RPM) for example. Don't obsess on the tach, let the feel of the truck guide you. It knows!

For regular everyday driving I shift 1->2 and 2->3 at around 3000. 3->4 and up is more around 2500. If I feel the need to scoot away from a stoplight I'll shift 1->2 closer to 4000. And if I want to have a little fun I run 2nd up to 4500.

    I've never actually looked :anonymous:

I shift at whatever feels good at the time. Low, high, I don't get caught up in the numbers. I shift by conditions, mood, Mercury in retrograde, who knows.

Definitely, go by what feels right for your zodiac sign or whatever. But when I do happen to glance down at the tac, my shifts are happening near those numbers I mentioned above.

Also just noticed you're driving a 2nd gen, so probably disregard my 3rd gen shift points... I've never driven a 2nd gen :anonymous:

Thanks @StandardTaco for pointing that out.

@Vala . There is a TSB update out there for your Taco, if your a 4.0l. TSB-0110-14. It makes a world of difference.

They certainly can, but if it is out of powertrain warranty, it might cost you?

    You're welcome!

It takes 10min of actual time to do the TSB updates.

Im an old fogey, I shift low and dont drive over 55. Ive heard good gas mileage only comes from driving over 3000rpm in our trucks, but Ive got HEAVY 32s and never shift past 2500 and I get a CONSISTENT 21mpg in town.

    4.30 gears

/).- Im a first gen tho.

I get similar. I basically hoon corners if they're clear and drive normal otherwise.

Hey lads just wondering whats the best tune for manual? I have a chance to get kdmax pro, wondering what everyone's thoughts are on it or if I should possibly looked into a different one.
    Thanks

KD Pro is by far the best i've tried for the MT. but i had mine tweaked a bit to make it drive right for me and that made it my current tune of choice. i've been a huge Coyoza fan, and used a few older versions of KD before that. the Pro tune is a big step forward. more filled out and consistent than Coyoza, easier to drive all around, less peaky and inconsistent with throttle and power.

I have a locked vF Ultimate test tune that I cannot get away from, other than wanting to run the YotaWerx S/C beta tunes on my N/A for longer than a handful of miles.

I probably need to update my 2 year old SFOB tube, it runs great but still falls flat in 2nd a bit.

Anyone have experience with the tunes in 4 lo?
I do quite a bit of offroading so I'm curious of what it does for that

The Ultimate tune might be out early-ish next year.

The vF tunes make wheeling nice. A bunch of extra torque, control, and consistency. 1st gear DFCO is still being worked on though.

I can creep over stuff the way that I want to.
