Has anybody had an issue with the paint on the factory grille peeling/flaking off? If so did the dealer cover it under warranty? Mine has 28k miles and I've had for exactly one year. Can post pictures if need be.

I would look in the Buy, Sell, Trade section, tons of people pull the stock grille off and put a Pro on so you should be able to get one for next to nothing.

Mine did that too. I plan on getting an aftermarket grille, so I'm not worried.

I know of one guy whose paint peeled on the grill and was replaced under warranty.

That's what I was wondering. I'll let them replace it if it's under warranty, if not I was going to wait for it to go out of warranty and put a pro grille on it

Im having a similar issue but on a 2019 trd or. I just noticed a couple spots but I figured it was road rash from the winter road salt or a rock getting thrown up from a vehicle in front of me. But it was a nice weekend so I washed (hand wash) and waxed the truck and yes it’s already dirty I have to park in a dusty lot at work. The more and more I looked the more spots I found and the more it looked like it was peeling up and flaking off. Sent pictures to my dealer and they said Toyota is going to cover it under warranty on Friday when it comes in. However the truck only has 21000 miles and I’m kinda worried the new grill won’t last that long either. At least they are covering it. You can even see the spots from a few feet back.09D9EFE7-9EEC-425A-8F4F-B64C9D8F9831.jpg 5F3E5002-1663-4B2B-9ED2-C717D12A7232.jpg69667D16-F6DC-4865-8167-14E67844FD42.jpg

Apparently its pretty common. My sport grille has been sitting in my garage for a while though so idk. I upgrading to the TRD Pro grille back in August 2019.

I do in fact reinstall it whenever I visit the dealer and still no issues with the paint.

I’m having the exact same issue on mine. I have the same TRD OR but it’s a 2018 28K miles on it.

Rock chips ? That doesn’t look like peeling more damage from rocks chipping the chrome off .

I’d get a hold of your local Toyota dealer as they are covering mine so it might be a common issue either that or they can figure it into the 3yr/36000 mile anything coverage.

That’s what I thought at first too it was from the road salt as we actually had a winter this year in west central Ohio. But I don’t drive back roads much (rocks) and never really follow closely on the highway. Truck is mainly used in town. Plus none of the spots showed any actual damage like a rock hit it. Plus there’s no damage anywhere else on the bumper or grill from rocks. Not sure either way with only 21000 miles and being less than 2 years old I wouldn’t think this would be a problem yet. But either way it’s going in tomorrow for a new grill free of charge so I have to give Toyota props for that.

I noticed those little chips on mine when I removed it for a Pro Grille last year. My truck had 9000 miles on it.

I searched for this issue and came to this thread. I'm going to take my truck up to the dealer for this today. They said they need to inspect in person and decide if it's "rock chips" (which it clearly is not) before they decide. So hopefully that all goes well. I wonder, assuming they agree to replace it, would I be able to ask for the Pro grill and just maybe pay the difference? Has anyone done anything like that? Doesn't seem like it would be a big deal to me, but I'm not sure how the dealer would view that.

If you have a friendly dealer then l don't see why they couldn't apply the difference towards a Pro Grille. There was a decent Toyota Dealer in Monroeville but its been about 20 years since l was last up that way.

I go to the dealer in Washington, PA. For the most part they have treated me well. Going to try and head up there this afternoon. I'll ask and report back with what they say.

    Nothing major yet.
Or even I’d suggest to check your local Craigslist or Facebook market place. There is less competition there and usually cheaper prices. I bought a spare 2021 grill from a (at the time) brand new 2021 sport for $25.
