Yeah I should say I've watered mine after working on the truck if I've spilled oil or something, but it's the people that go out on a weekend morning and hold the hose to the driveway while drinking their coffee that make me laugh

hockey seasons starts up again tonight. I haven't gotten my skates sharpened in over a year, it's like trying to stand on spoons at this point. Of course I waited until the last minute and finding a good skate sharpener in CA is like trying to find an igloo. Local rink has a 3 week wait period, lol.

    This is tempting but $800...oof

I suppose I could practice on my old pair, would be entertaining at least. Would have to keep the angle grinder in a solid position on a vice or something the whole time but I guess its really no different than using a spinning sharpening stone.

Could you just run a kitchen knife sharpener over it and call it a day?

You can use a handheld stone to fix the edge but skate blades have what's called a "hollow" like so... you want to make sure that's even across the entire blade and the edge is smooth

otherwise you'll be falling all over the place like people do on rental skates at the local ice rinks, which are usually kept incredibly dull on purpose for liability reasons.

Everyone thinks they can't ice skate but that's usually because they've only rented them before. Not that it doesn't take talent to get good at it, but it's not as hard as most think.

oh ok. That's more complicated than I thought. A jig would be pretty useful for that.

    Definitely

A grinding wheel will easily take off a lot of metal unless that's what you're wanting to do. Doubt you want to do that on skates though.

Yeah I just looked it up and people use a DIY jig with a belt grinder and more.

I would probably end up literally hollowing out the entire blade, probably end up with the sharpest skates on the planet though. Taking big ass chunks out of the ice and getting thrown out lol.
